After leaving the Loriens' place, the investigators mads their way back to Paris, taking the train once more as they discussed the area they traveled past. Once back, they elected to visit Les Halles, getting food from vendors in the area and discussing their plans with the Simulacrum. They wondered what they should tell Wellington once they reach Lausanne. Should they bring the left arm with them? Hide it? They considered putting it in a lockbox/security box at the Societe Generale there, which have places all over Europe. Dennis, in possession of the left arm wrapped up in cloth, was suddenly jostled by someone passing by, who managed to scratch him somehow through his suit and cutting his skin a bit on his left arm. Noticing that nothing was stolen and the scratch seemed fine, they chalked it up to unluckiness of Denis' part. The group elected to spend some time doing various things other than researching or chasing leads. Some passed time at their hotel, and some bought some things they thought they needed, deciding to group back up at the hotel at 10:30 P.M., an hour and 30 minutes before the Orient Express departs. Dennis grabbed a bag for the left arm, as well as some better cloth to cover it with. And at 10:30, they all grabbed a cab and set off to the Gare de Lyon. Seeing that a band was playing, as well as a noted opera singer (Caterina Cavollaro, the one Veronique had mentioned to them), they checked in some of their luggage and brought in the rest. Cavollaro made herself known to them, encouraging them to come see a surprise she had in the dining car at 2 A.M., if they would be able to make it. The group elected to nap, Isaac and Hazan hoping to wake up at the right time and John deciding to get a drink at the bar, meeting one Basil Zaharoff. At 2, Hazan and Isaac woke up and made their way to the salon car, where Caterina was with her friends. She left to grab something, letting them get themselves comfortable before coming back 15 minutes later in a beautiful silver gown and an ankh around her neck. With the crowd paying attention now, she explained that she had loved the opera Aida since she was a child, hoping one day to be able to perform it. The aria she was going to sing was about Aida being divided in loyalty between her father and her lover. And with that, she sang a beautiful song. The investigator group being revitalized, they each felt themselves more prepared to get to Lausanne and then Milan. Hazan had been able to find out more about her strange artifact, learning some new things about it. Isaac finished a chapter of his notebooks, keeping everything that had happened together and turning to a new page (as it were). Dennis tried to seek solace in the pocketwatch his Aunt Betty had given to him, but all it did was remind him that there was a life behind him in Boston, one that he was shirking to go gallivanting off in Europe trying to find something strange. Finally, John drank more with his new friend, discovering they had much in common, such as being related to the arms industry and the manufacture of weapons. With the aria over, and the applauding finished, Caterina handed 5 tickets to the investigators, to front row seats at the opera in 3 days, on the 17th. Isaac apologized and went off to bed, but Hazan stayed behind to be introduced to Caterina's friends. A russian noblewoman, her lover, and elderly antiquarian and her secretary, and an English author of some repute named Agatha Christie.
