As Nor is tucking a feeble-minded Elaryan into bed in a corner bedroom of the Chapel of the Elk-Heade God, he hears a muffled yelling from a nearby room. Dissolving the door, he discovers Arthas, manacled to a wall! The paladin is fuzzy on the details, but it seems that he was captured by the ghasts and imprisoned. Using her immense strength, Xhotl manages to break him free. As they are leaving the cell, the heroes are ambushed by a female nabasu, possibly the mother of the half-fiend that Nor and Elaryan fought earlier. Momenets later, the half-fiend himself reappears and joins his mother in battle. With the aid of Arthas's smite ability, however, the companions are easily triumphant, slaying the nabasu and chasing away her son. At that moment, Flumph appears, in obvious distress. Nor had set him to guard the unresponsive Elaryan, and the fungal companion reports that the sorcerer is being taken away. Nor, Lor, and Arthas pursue. They interrupt a ghast cleric as it is stringing the sorcerer up in the chapel kithen. From the wicked knife in the ghast's hands, not to mention the other disfigured forms hanging from the rafter, it is clear that Elaryan was about to be flayed alive. They heroes destroy the ghast and cut down Elaryan and the other victims. Examining the bodies, Arthas determines that these poor creatures were priests or Erastil, captured when the chapel was overtaken by the nabasu's spawn. The paladin resolves to find them a proper burial, and to remove as much of the chapel's defilement as he can. After a few hours of cleaning, Arthas has tidied up a few of the chapel's rooms, but he begins to realize that this is a bigger job than he first expected. Worse of all, the chapel's sanctuary is under the effect of a desecrate spell, which can only be countered by an equally powerful consecration . Arthas turns to Lor and Nor for help. Nor explains that he only has one high-level spell left. He could remove the desecration... but he was planning to use the spell to travel back into town. Pressed by Arthas (not to mention Erastil's Fury), the halfling suggests a compromise. He will cast planar ally to summon a creature that can both consecrate and plane shift. In that way, the party will get two spells for the price of one! Arthas is skeptical at first. But then Nor tells him of the mystical couatl, legendary winged serpents that serve the powers of good-- and who might well be able to cast consencrate. He also speaks of the noble djinn, who reside on the Plane of Air. Djinn aren't known for their powers of consecration, but they can definitiely plane shift, and some have been known to dabble in religion. Either of these noble creatures could appear... or perhaps another even more powerful, more righteous ally! Confronted with such ironclad logic, Arthas agrees to Nor's plan, and even contributes a massive pile of coins to the offering. Nor begins the ritual, and a few minutes later, an explanar being does indeed appear. However, it is not a noble djinni priest, nor a winged couatl. Instead, Nor has summoned the fungus queen, a tentacled horror from the Fungal Planes. Nor and the outsider converse for a few moments in plantspeech, then the halfling reveals some mixed news. The fungus queen does not have the power of consecration, unfortunately, but she does have the ability to bring the party back to their own plane. Wrapping her tentacle around the heroes' tender forms, she breathes her spores deep into their lungs-- and the world fades to black. The party awakens in an unfamiliar jungle. True to her word, the fungus queen has transported them across the planar barrier to the Prime Material Plane. Nor expands his fungal keep, and the heroes retreat inside to recover. Everyone who played gains 2,500 XP.
