The Vibe “The young mouse's eyes snapped open, clear and bright. He swung the ancient sword high and struck at the giant adder. He struck for Redwall! He struck against evil! He struck for Log-a-Log and his shrews! He struck against Cluny the Scourge and tyranny! He struck out against Captain Snow's ridicule! He struck for the world of light and freedom! He struck until his paws ached and the sword fell from them!”  -Brian Jacques, Redwall The winter is long and dark, and the shadows of the trees grow tall. The forest is not a place of mercy. Who will weep for prey, small and bright and vital as a matchstick flaring out? The mice are an old race, and proud, but they are only as mighty as the quickness of their wits and the sharpness of their swords. The ancient woods, your home; the Mice of the Oaken Citadel, your people; a perfect silver needle of precious steel, your sword. Be not afraid, young mouse. Your ancestors are with you. The Campaign In Mice of the Oak Citadel, you and your people live in a great city-state inside an ancient tree, located in the eastern reach of an endless ancient temperate forest called The Greatwood. In the fertile eastlands of the Greatwood, mice live in towns and villages. In the deep woods, beneath the earth, endless depths of ancient catacombs yawn and beckon. Through the center of the wood runs The Wide Water, home to the Selkies and the clans of the Island Mice. Far away, in the shadowy westland, other creatures rule: the sorcerous Toads, the mischievous Rats, the secretive Faeries of legend. Beyond the treeline, in the Wide Yonder, human settlements thunder and smoke, bumbling giants bereft of culture or pity. It is not an easy world. The Mouse Guard patrols the pathways, protecting the Citadel and its surrounding villages from predators, the weather, and monsters more strange that wander up from the ruins. Bold and daring Scampers raid the man-villages for strong tools, scour the forest for supplies, and delve the ancient dungeons in search of treasure, technology, magic and glory. Unscrupulous but enterprising Streetmice run jobs, heists, and criminal enterprise in the endless tunnels of the Oak Citadel's roots. Diplomats and some bold tradesmice cross The Wide Water into the westlands, to deal with the strange creatures there, protected by Bladecoat sellswords. Meanwhile, thousands of city mice trade, study, sing, farm, work and live their lives within the Citadel’s sacred walls. There are many stories to tell. This campaign isn't the story of a single group of mice ascending to godhood or making it rich and retiring to gold-plated manors. One mouse does not build a kingdom. Instead, we will create vignettes, short some-shot pictures into the lives of the Mice of the Old Forest, building a world full of characters and stories from many angles. Some of these stories will be deadly and brutal, and some will be cozy. We'll play to find out what life here is like, what we can build, what we can save, what it will cost. Seasons will pass, and whether by the grace of our steel or the skin of our whiskers, we will survive.  The System Mausritter is an OSR game about being a badass fantasy mouse. You have just 3 stats, very low hit points, and a limited inventory. Spells take inventory slots. Attacks always hit. If you want any chance of fighting something on the scale of a cat or larger, you've got to get a warband together or you're MeowMix on legs. It's a fast, dangerous game, with very little cushion against lethality. Caution, planning, and cooperation are your most powerful weapons. But mice are not timid, and neither are we. Mausritter gives you an opportunity to be brave in the face of real peril. Mausritter doesn't have much of an advancement system, but it does use some. Different vignettes will be set at different levels, so while the campaign is episodic, we will still be able to experience different “tiers” of play. We'll be playing over discord and roll20 for maps and pictures. The GM I'm Angie (she/her), I'm 27, I'm mtf trans, and I've been playing and GMing tabletop roleplaying games since my friends first brought over their DnD 3.5 books to my house the summer after 8th grade. Since then, rpg’s have been the place my heart lived. I've played Dark Heresy, Apocalypse World, Pathfinder, Dungeon World, Traveller, Lamentations, Genesys, Dungeon Crawl Classics, Microscope... lots and lots more. My bachelorette party happened at an LGS. This is my biggest passion.  I run mostly theater-of-the-mind style games, but I draw lots of terrible (but legible!) sketches to keep the picture clear. I telegraph threats, root for the PC's, and love doing character voices. Left to my own devices, I tend to split up games 50% RP/25% Exploration/25% Combat, but I'm flexible and thirsty for feedback always.   I care deeply about issues of consent and safety in rpg's, and I always use both the Lines+Veils system and the X-card. I also believe that social responsibility in role-playing is important, and I strive to resist the colonialist roots of the fantasy adventure genre even as I engage in it. Basically I'm a queer sjw dice goblin <3 I even have dyed hair.  Obviously, this game is 100% LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC friendly. ACAB, BLM, Trans Rights are Human Rights. The Application If you're interested, DM me and introduce yourself! Tell me about your rpg history, your playing style, what interests you about Mice of the Oak Citadel, and what your personal values are! If you've read all this text, please include the word "cinnamon" somewhere in your message. Feel free to ask me any questions as well. My goal is to get a good sense of who you are, and provide that sense in turn. Don't be a stranger!  I'll be scheduling and conducting interviews over discord before the campaign starts. I hope to have session zero by the end of the month! Applications will be closing 1 week after I've posted this.
