After the opera, John Thompson also returned to bed, falling asleep to the sounds of the train moving onwards. Hazan continued speaking with each of her newfound friends, learning their stories and where they came from, including Mrs. Sunderland and her assistant Grace Murphy, an Egyptologist and antiques dealer. Seregena Rankenberg, the Romanov princess, who came onto the train with her small retinue and her lover, Vladimir. Agatha Christie, whose novel of last year was a decent hit in England. After speaking with them for some time, she went to bed, being the last of the investigator group to fall asleep. Each investigator had one of their usual dreams, before each finding themselves on the streets of a very old medieval city. The place was bizarre, and it felt like they had been transported back in time. There were a large number of cats, and Hazan recalled from a Dream Lore roll that it was illegal to kill a cat in the town they were in, Ulthar. In Earth's Dreamlands. Getting their bearings, Hazan and Isaac were in the same general area, speaking with each other about the odd experience. Before long, they heard voices coming from a beautiful platform at the edge of town. After the cats started making their way over, the five decided to make their way as well. There, they found a very nice train station, with one part cordoned off for cats. People were gathering as a train started to pull in, and the investigators noticed 3 other people who were as tall as them- noticing as well that most of the people there were shorter in general. A man with mutton chops, a formal, brisk man, and a cold woman in Elizabethan dress. John approached the man with the mutton chops, who introduced himself as Mr. Mac Mackenzie. He explained he had heard of the Dreamlands Express before and was excited to board it. He had fallen asleep on the Orient Express as well and found himself here, like the group. With that, the train pulled in, a massive collection of beasts with tentacles and pavilions atop them. The conductor came down from the engine beast (or so it seemed to be) and introduced himself as Henri Peeters, who had worked on the Orient Express. He handed each dreamer a ticket, stipulating his rules, and told them they were welcome to board his train of extravagance. They five boarded after some discussion. The compartments were incredibly extravagant, with various sleeping attire and accoutrements for them to take advantage of. After discussing how weird it all was, Hazan and May went to the Lady's Parlor car while the other three went to the Men's Saloon. The Men's Saloon had quite the selection of meats, wines and other alcohol, while the Parlor had a garden and various cakes and sandwiches. The investigators took turns moving through each car, discussing whether they should stay on the train until the final station, where they could "throw away their fears" in the "gulf of Nodens," or to get off before then. The general consensus was to get off before then, even after Henri gave them green velvet bags to put their 'fears' into, after creating them. May, seeing the Cat Compartment, made her way over to see what it was all about. Entering, seeing the cats would allow her to, she sat down on a chair and a cat immediately jumped onto her lap. Hazan joined her later, falling asleep after John started gambling with the cats, playing Blackjack with them. May departed to her compartment, falling asleep for a short nap. Both of them found themselves waking on the Orient Express, back on track to Lausanne. Hazan found she had a green velvet bag with her now. Isaac, after feeling like he wanted a cigar and getting one put into his hands, elected to go to sleep as well. He woke up on the Orient Express, too, able to remember their dreams. Dennis decided to visit the bathhouse, after watching the train going over bumps and valleys without him feeling a thing inside. He seemed a bit perturbed at all the (naked) people already there, but he got undressed and settled in, before falling asleep in the bath. John, wanting to know a bit more about the train, decided to see what the tender car was like. He walked through a long section of sleeping cars- which was odd because there only seemed to be 2 before. Passed through the bathhouse and luggage car, seeing all the junk that people had taken on the train. In the tender, the sight was a bit... odd. Two stokers with masks and a 'shimmering air' about them, shoveling flesh from the tender car below and putting it into a maw on the back of the 'engine' car. He tried to speak to the stokers, but they only looked at him momentarily in response. One was wearing a tragedy mask, and the other a happy one. Henri appeared behind him, just as he thought about asking him a question. Taking him back through the other cars, Henri answered his questions about how he had acquired the train and started it. He told him about how he had to travel the Dreamlands to find adequate transportation vehicles. He was disappointed with what he found on the Earth's Dreamlands, eventually able to travel to alien dreamlands to find the beasts that became his new Orient Express. He also explained how he died, just stating that there was a fire on the Express and showing him his scars. He also offered to teach John how to speak Cat, after he showed interest. After taking a bath, John went to bed as well. He woke up back on the Orient Express, the conductor making sure he wouldn't miss his stop at Lausanne. Unfortunately, even after trying incredibly hard to retain memories of the dream, he lost them, causing him some distress as he forgot the wonders of the Dreamlands Express... as the train arrived in Lausanne.
