Hiding Tokens and Generic Monster Journal Entries

Sorry for all the newbie questions, but would appreciate some veteran hand-holding regarding two points: 1. Hiding Tokens: I've been stocking my dungeon with monster tokens that I want to be hidden to players until I make them visible, i.e. for hiding monsters or just in case I accidentally reveal an area the party hasn't been to yet. I am currently doing this by putting these tokens on the GM layer, and plan to transfer them to the token layer when they appear. Is this OK, or is there a better way to do this? 2. Generic Monster Journal Entries: Do you set up journal entries for all or some of your NPCs/monsters and link them to the token? The game I'm prepping has lots of goblins; would it make sense to create a generic goblin entry and link it to all standard goblin tokens, or is this not worth the effort?

1. That's pretty much the best way unless you have an API script that does it better. Dynamic lighting could also help out in this area. Both are mentor features. 2. That's pretty much exactly how I do things. Make a Goblin sheet/character, create a token for it, set but don't link the HP, and then set that token as the default. It's more worth it than creating 10 Goblin sheets.
1. Yep, that's the best way to do it, in my opinion as well. It's easier than dragging each one from the journal, at least it saves time since you've done that part already. 2. Also yes. Tips on setting up tokens -Phnord
Cool, thx for the swift replies.
