DnD 5e Organized Play Recruitment (Adventurer's League)

So for the past year or so I've been DMing Pathfinder Society games on Roll20, and there is a thriving community on a Google Group called the Pathfinder Society Online Collective: <a href="https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/pathfinder-society-online-collective" rel="nofollow">https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/pathfinder-society-online-collective</a> They've got almost 2,000 members and as a DM it's been easy to find players for game, basically whenever I want. For player's, I thinks a great option to find a game if you don't have a FLGS (local gaming shop) within easy reach. Almost 90% of the games I've seen advertised looking for players are on roll20, a smaller number are for MapTools, FantasyGround or others. So I'd like to start a new community for folks that are looking to organize or participate in new Organized Play program and to quickly find games online to play online. If you’re interested in joining, please sign up here: DnD Adventurer's League Online Collective Right now, anyone can sign up, but after we reach 100 or so members, signups with have to be verified by a moderator before you can post. If any account starts to spam, with commercially related links or material unsuitable for a decent human being, (or a bot is detected), that account will be banned. Many users allow PFS Online Collective posts to go directly to their email in order to not miss a game that may fill up quickly, but there are also options to get a summary once a day of all posts, or not have it forwarded to your email at all and just check the website. Do whatever works for you. As we grow, we’ll also be interesting in recruiting more members who want to become a collective moderator, there will be a post going up if you are interested in taking on a bigger role in helping build a bigger, healthier DnD Online Organized Play community. Again, thanks for Pathfinder Society Online Collective , whom we ripped off, pretty much wholesale. They have a great community for Pathfinder Society, and I think there will be plenty of people who would love a similar community for DnD Adventurer’s League.
I signed up there, how do we officially sign up for the League and get approved? I am trying to design an extensive Character sheet that should save a lot of time. I use it in 2 of the D&D 5e campaigns I run. It is more complicated than Actoba's, but will be much more powerful with a list of API scripts to use with it and a lot of ease of use / time savers.
There is no approval for online play (which is considered part of what they consider home play). But any character you make, and level, can be used at conventions and in-store events. Here are some links: <a href="http://dndadventurersleague.org/get-involved/" rel="nofollow">http://dndadventurersleague.org/get-involved/</a> <a href="http://dnd.wizards.com/playevents/players" rel="nofollow">http://dnd.wizards.com/playevents/players</a> Let me know if that answers your question. Also, if you want a tester for your sheet, I'd love to try it out and give you some feedback.
Currently I have it setup to my homebrew- and have some extra like stacking criticals (if you critical then it becomes easier to critical) as well as things like character odor.
I joined. I hope this becomes popular because I really like what I've seen if the new rules.

There's not really a lot known about how exactly it will work, at least not enough to satisfy me, but the game itself (5e) has been a real joy to DM. I hope Adventurer's League is successful and brings in lots of new players. And I hope this google group (DALOC) can help facilitate online games on roll20.
This is great, I'm really looking forward to trying this out. Check out the new DALOC blog !
Hey, just signed up here at roll20 and on the DALOC! Looking forward to participating, and thanks to Ari for setting this up!
Thanks Jonathan. Considering how new AL is I people I'm happy with the rate in which people are signing up. I think there's a lot of interest around DnD's organized play model. A lot of us are still trying to get our heads around how it all works, but at least we'll have a steady supply of interested players.
I just joined and hope for some online action really soon... See you around the the table.... ehhh, ...hmmm... yeah.... You know what I mean...
Hi, just joined Roll20 today and would like to get involved in your league with a view to playing online exclusively. I joined the Google Group as Yamai, but am somewhat clueless as to how to proceed. After reading the quickstart guides, I am not sure if this even means I'm signed up to the league. I am unsure how to sign up to a game group and what to do with the "form-fillable" adventure logs and character sheet and how these sheets relate to a game in Roll20 or Fantasy Grounds. Are we supposed to print, scan and upload them somewhere? I know they say "fillable" but I can't seem to add anything in any empty box directly to the PDF, which is what I assume is meant by "fillable".

Anyone know quite how home brew content will fit into this league? I thought I read it somewhere, where only content WOTC signs off on will be allowed for this. Somewhere else I read you can homebrew. If Homebrew is an option, I have an entire world I have been working on for the past year which I plan to expand and add these factions to. And if that is the case I am interested. If it is only WOTC official content then I am not as interested. I am essentially looking to mostly DM, but sometimes be a player for short one shots to fine tune the material in my campaign over time. As I mentioned before I have an advanced character sheet that I am adding additional advanced features to (API scripts) which I would be more than willing to hand out for this, if all are interested. It has a "Diplomacy" tab which would be easily able to track your reputation and renown with all of the factions. If players familiarized themselves with said character sheet, and with the character vault feature, players would be able to quickly join one shots, get some experience and move on, etc.
It's only WOTC approved content labeled as Adventure League compatible. So far just the starter set adventure with the Tyranny of Dragons stuff coming up shortly.
Thought I read that somewhere, that's rather unfortunate. DMs have a hard enough job as it is, the theory behind this is a really cool idea, it just seems hard for me at least to try to take advantage of.
Yeah I dunno, I guess it's to prevent players from arriving at organized play events filled to the gills with magical items from their DM's homebrew where they rain from the sky. If your intention is to just play online and never show up at an event and get a DCI number you can kind of do whatever you want anyway.
I'll be posting a few more articles, but the gist is you can play any sanctioned content . You just need to make sure you use the rules in the Player's Guide to create your character, and fill in your log sheets. You don't need a DCI number until you get to a store or convention. Right now the Starter Set Adventure Lost Mine of Phandelver is sanctioned content. Hoard of the Dragon Queen will be as well. I think DMs are still getting their minds around how this all works, but player's don't need to make this overly complicated. Just make a character, get your adventure log ready and try and find a game. The finding a game part is harder now, since this is all very new. But I think after the PHB comes out, you'll see a bunch more games being advertised by DMs. Just be patient and stay tuned.
10000000% interested! Joined the group
That's a lot of percents. Oh, if there are any folks that enjoy DMing, please PM me. I'm recruiting DMs specifically now to help manage a healthy ecosystem within the group, and I think there are things I can help do to help incentivize it.
I don't mind DM'ng if needed. However I am my RL groups eternal DM and would love to just play sometimes lol. Haven't read 5th full yet
This sounds pretty fun.
For PFS players, that are considering AL I wrote an article about some philosophical differences that I hope will help you as you consider Adventurer's League: <a href="http://dndonlinecollective.blogspot.com/2014/08/in-defense-of-adventurers-league.html" rel="nofollow">http://dndonlinecollective.blogspot.com/2014/08/in-defense-of-adventurers-league.html</a> . Hint: It's a different beast.

You don't have to sign up for Adventurer's League, so don't sweat that. Our Google Group is to help players organize games online. DMs will post what adventure they are running and the level range, and when the game will be, and what VTT and communication tool (Google Hangouts or Skype) the want to use. Then players can answer those posts if they want to try and grab a spot. Once you are verified as having a seat in a particular game, DMs will normally ask players to send them their Character Sheet and Adventure Log. If you can write these out by hand, take a picture and email it or try and use the sheets on <a href="http://dndonlinecollective.blogspot.com/" rel="nofollow">http://dndonlinecollective.blogspot.com/</a> , but these are still in Beta. If your having trouble with the fillable sheets, I'd like to know more, so please PM me with what exactly isn't working. Make sure you have a recent version of Adobe Reader in order to fill out stuff and save it. I hope that helps.
@Ari K. That's cleared it up for me, thank you. The logsheets and character sheet are working fine, I was just too thick to realize I had to download them direct rather than open them as a webpage. Thanks for the reply and look I forward to some good games!
Looking to start up a tiered session or two for Tyranny starting next weekend - if you are game ADOC members are welcome!!!!! <a href="https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1093931/r20-slash-skype-tod-horde-beginning-lvl-1-tbd-friday-pm-saturday-am-slash-pm-or-sunday-10am-2pm-edt-gmt-4/#post-1098395" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1093931/r20-slash-skype-tod-horde-beginning-lvl-1-tbd-friday-pm-saturday-am-slash-pm-or-sunday-10am-2pm-edt-gmt-4/#post-1098395</a>
You should post a thread in the group page! You'll find players there for sure. Especially EST.
