This idea was first posted about five years ago and I think it is a good time to bring this topic up again as Obsidian Notes may be gaining more traction among DMs. Obsidian is a note taking app that allows you to easily make links between your notes which in turn makes it easier for you to find information you are looking for. For example, a session recap can be linked to previous session recaps from many sessions (maybe years) ago that contained an idea for a plot hook that your players a finally picking up on. This session recap may also contain links to places and locations, NPCs, potential new plot hooks, that the players have come across and based on your previous notes about these places, NPCs and the links between them, inspire different directions of your story. Obsidian totes itself as a second brain, so think of these links as synaptic links of ideas, concepts and information within a brain. Although Roll20 already has ways to link handouts, it is a bit easier to do in Obsidian as it can autofill the note you want to link to rather than ensuring the roll20 handout name is typed correctly within the [[ ]]. As many of us have been using Roll20 for many years, we may already have a ton of notes within roll20 with various links to other handouts and images. As we transfer some of our notes from roll20 to Obsidian, it would be more efficient to preserve the links to roll20 to that we can move between the two seamlessly. I am still new to Obsidian (Day 2) and the learning curve for general use is not high especially if you are a pro account user using APIs on Roll20. Customizability with hot keys, templates and plugins also enhance the note taking experience.
