Rumour Has it part 1:
adventures of the Slumber Party as told by Glaurung the Golden Sune's blessings on you all! After returning from our quest to find horses for Hope, Borin
and I had the good fortune of running into Gigi and Larry, our comrades in arms
from Lull. There was nothing for it but
to follow up on the rumour of a fallen star relayed to us by the refugees we
rescued from the Ogres some time ago. We hoped that Burglekutt could join us but there was no sign
of the sweaty fellow. Rumour has it he
was busy investigating the filthy sewers beneath Hope. Mindful of our struggles in Lull, we instead
looked to recruit some fighting muscle and here we were in luck. Joining us were Nadia, a mighty ranger of
renown (having recently toured the insides of a Froghemoth) and a powerful
lizardfolk called Narc. Our destination was Strade’s Gallows, which excited me for I
had yet to travel West in my adventures on the Savage Frontier. It was bitterly cold when we set out but fortunately we had a
road to follow and Larry did a splendid job of keeping us on track. Some time in the afternoon, however, we came
across a pair of refugees, a mother and son.
They told a harrowing tale of
being waylaid by spiders and indeed the venerable mother was suffering the
lingering effects of a bite. Always the
first to act in the face of need, Borin swiftly healed the good woman and we
obtained direction to the nearby cave said to be infested by the wicked
spiders. As we set off I couldn’t help but remark on our party’s
facility for finding lost and needy people out in the wilderness. We snuck into the cave of the spiders, hoping they hadn’t slain
all the travellers. Out stealth was
rewarded with us surprising a blue glowing spider as it was wrapping up its prey. We struck with spells and arrows, doing it
some hurt when suddenly we were swarmed by a veritable army of giant
spiders. I was enveloped in webs as was
poor Larry. When Narc went to assist Larry
he was overcome by three of the great beasts.
I too was under similar assault though I slew a couple of them by calling
on my draconic heritage to breath fire on them (did I mention my Grandmother
was a Gold Dragon per chance?). The creatures were beings of cold and soon most of us were
shivering from the freezing webs. Gigi’s
Aledritch blasts were of great help for though they were resistant to cold, they
became drunk from the arcane booze blasts.
Meanwhile Nadia strode among us like a war goddess of old, slaying
spider after spider with either her arrows or a strange blade she referred to
as The Bhuj. Borin pulled Narc back from the brink of death and ultimately
we prevailed. We found four refugees
still alive though many more dead including Sir Percy, a paladin of some
renown. His items, however, were of use
to the living and soon Borin was equipped in Platemail while Nadia boasted a
magical sword of lightning. Well
deserved if you ask me. We set the refugees on the road and provided some coin for a
hot meal at the Stuck Pig and continued on our way. That night our slumbers were interrupted by Dragon Cultists. For a while it looked like we might come to
blows but silver tongued Larry convinced them our mission was the destruction
of Ragemaw, which suited the creepy little undead dragon worshippers to a tee. The next day we made excellent progress on the road and by
pushing ourselves extra hard we reached the shelter of Strade’s Gallows. There is much strange going on in that town
but I confess I wasn’t too interesting being still exhausted from my recent
adventures. It was a relieve to sleep in
real beds and the respite did much to restore the health of Borin and Nadia. The next morning we decided to turn our back on the mysteries
of grave digging children (perhaps another party from Hope can attend to that
matter) and continue North on our quest.
We hired a boat for a river crossing and then began to quarter the
wilderness, seeking the fallen star. As we were closing in our quarry a foreboding mist began to
surround us and then we saw a odd looking wizard running in our direction. Following behind in short order were two
enormous boar fiends. We fired some
spells and arrows but then they were upon us and wrecked fearful harm on Nadia and
poor Narc, who yet again was sorely beset.
The lizardfolk did the best he could, lashing out with his weapons and
even taking a nibble from one of the beasts.
Meanwhile Nadia plied bow and bhuj in equal measure while I fired great
bolts of fire and Gigi made free play with magic missiles. Larry also chimed in with some deadly necromantic
blasts and ultimately both beasts were slain, though some of us bore the mark
of their battle prowess. Here we took pause
to meet with the wizard and hopefully learn of the mysterious fallen star.
May Sune shine her beatific countenance on you all!
