I am traveling at the moment so I used the opportunity to try Roll20 mobile version to host my Shadowrun campaign. As a device I used the iPad 2 with the latest iOS installment. As a GM I did use landscape mode during the whole session. For voice connection we did use Skype. Several bugs and problems occurred during the game. 1) when assigning characters to players I have not been able to scroll up and down the menu so that my last player could not be assigned to her token. I had to assign it to All Players to give her somewhat control over it. 2) I could not scroll up and down the initiative tracker which was unpractical when entering the initiative values or changing them during the combat. 3) during the game every time I tapped a token it did not only the token menu/wheel but also the pulldown menu as with right-clicking. It did not matter how long or short I tapped the token or if I used one or two fingers. This was getting extremely annoying - every time I had to change HPs. Unfortunately the Undo option was in the same spot as my hp counter so if I was unlucky I did not even fail to change the number but even undid the last change. 4) using the dice tool sometimes I was unable to backspace on the number of dice to change my dice pools. I had to restart or refresh the campaign constantly which was was very time consuming and killed the combat action. 5) working in landscape mode Roll20 did move the screen up and down all by it self as if opening some invisible pulldown menu on the top. I cannot explain this more clearly since I do not know what the engine was working on. But it took away the top third of the screen and made hitting the right spot on the map a sport. 6) the background music is shutting down Skype communication. 7) moving tokens and rolling dice is somewhat laggy compared to the computer version. Altogether I have to say that I am not very impressed by the mobile version of Roll20. As advanced as its computer version is, as buggy is its mobile version. The idea of using tablets is very appealing since it gives you a nice way of playing during holidays but there has to be done a lot of development still to make it work. As for now it's unfortunately impracticable for game-mastering even on a precreated campaign.
