Token-mod not working at all in my game

I have read several forum posts about token mod but none of them seem to be relevant to my problem. Token Mod does not work at all, I can't even get token-mod --help to do anything. Am I just using the command wrong?  I have copy and pasted basically every example token mod command from the wiki page and no errors, no output or change of any kind for any of them? The command I actually want to do is "!token-mod --set statusmarkers|dead" But I would settle for literally any command working so that I know that I am not crazy. Is there something I need to enable to make it work? is !token-mod --help  Not correct?

Just checking the obvious: have you installed the token mod script and verified that the sandbox is running?

Okay this is really stupid, but I am going to leave this up. After you told me to check the script being installed and the sandbox running, (they both were which is why I was so confused.)  I did a diff on my token mod script I had installed and the actual source. I have no idea how this happened but I somehow changed the the command in the handle input function. I must have been playing with the script and not tested that I had changed everything back. No more coding after 2 am.
