The GM can turn on showing names to players on the token's properties. There's an option to show the nameplate, and options for who can see it in a pop up submenu.
Still possible yes, as The Aaron's method ^ The interface on Token Settings Panel changed this year. These checkmark settings are a bit hidden compared to where it used to show-up, but still in roughly the same area of Token Settings for the GM.
Specifically, nameplate visibility is controlled by the top mouseover button on the Details tab of the token settings popup (a button with three vertical dots). Check the box next to "See" under "Player Permissions" to let players see the token nameplate:
