A thousand years ago, all magical races were driven off the material plane and fled to a demiplane within purgatory, an event which scholars refer to as 'the War on Magi'. The desolate land within purgatory was dubbed 'Wisteria' and divided into settlements. Moreover, the seemingly discriminatory nature of the preceding war motivated those in power to build the settlements in the image of harmony and racial unity, arguably most well represented by the city of Freesia. The few Humans that came along to Wisteria weren’t accounted for in this unity due to their betrayal and were instead hunted and driven into hiding. The leader of the settlements, called the Luminaries, wished to usher in a new age of peace and together with a committee of powerful spellcasters called the Council of Magic, established the Wisterian Federation and the Peace Law. This legislation restricted the use of magic and carrying of weapons. Though, much like all power, the Federation became corrupt, wanting to restrict the use of magic solely to the higher classes by slowly making the Peace Law much stricter and the procuring of magic items much more expensive. Currently, the year is 1051 EW (Ensuing the War) and the rift between the races and classes has become much greater than it has ever been. The lower classes know very little of magic and discriminate against magic users, calling them witches, and tensions are rising between the various settlements and their Luminaries. But between the disarray, a rebellion has begun taking shape, led by a group calling themselves 'the Insurgence'. Made up of those who wish to free the people of Wisteria from the tyranny of its government, or of those who see profit in this uprising, the Insurgence has been recruiting people in secret and planning to overthrow the Federation from the shadows. You ended up wanting to align yourself with the Insurgence and are now in Freesia, where the headquarters of the rebellion is supposedly located. Will you rise to the occasion and be victorious against the all-powerful Wisterian Federation, or will you betray the rebellion for the money and power it offers? ------------- My name's Ana and I'm a (somewhat) experienced GM looking to add one more player to my existing group of four! The campaign itself is story heavy and, as you can see from the summary, takes place in my homebrew setting called Wisteria! The tone of each game tends to vary, but the overall vibe is still somewhat serious with a few silly moments in between. Now I'm mainly looking for experienced players and roleplayers in this instance, but newer players are welcome too. Players who love writing backstories for their characters with intricate and intriguing lore are also very much welcome, as I would definitely ask you to write at least a page or two concerning their backstory. Another valuable skill I'm looking for in a player is the ability to find the balance between taking initiative and letting the other players have their time in the spotlight. It's no good to be a stage hog, after all! But all in all, the most important things I hope you would be able to do as a player is to pay attention, take initiative and write a backstory that I can use to create a fun and engaging campaign! As for the table rules of my game, most of the races from the Player's Hand Book, Elemental Evil Player's Companion and Volo's Guide to Monsters are allowed, but Aarakocra, Lizardfolk, Triton, and Yuan-ti Pureblood are not. I'm open to homebrew races and subclasses, but I can't guarantee that I would approve of most unless they fit and enhance your backstory or my world. There are other changes and buffs to races and classes, but I won't go into detail on those for now. Last but not least, be sure to read/skim through the homebrewery lore document linked below before deciding to apply! (This is the first draft, mind you, so it's subject to change) https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/TOPqU8f-snaJ If you’d like to apply for a spot, please direct message me the following info about yourself: Name and Pronouns: Age: Discord tag: Experience with 5E and other TTRPGs: Why you want to join the campaign: Your wants and needs out of the campaign: A little bit about yourself: An example/short backstory of a character you’ve made or want to play: Any additional questions or comments: After I’ve gathered enough applications, I’ll be doing short interviews through discord with a few of you. I'm sorry I won't be able to get back to everyone who applies, but from my experience, these tend to get pretty hectic! Anyway, thank you for reading through my LFP post and I hope you’ll apply if you're interested!
