Teres's Notes and Observations for Source of Stone 2 Nadia and
Uriel left not long after the Froghemoth fight. I don’t blame then, Nadia
looked like shit, but then again, she did just die. Luckily
Burglekutt, Ulag and Adalius came to join us. Finally, some more people with
vision. Castle Bentfingers may look like a dump now with a small demon problem.
But think of the potential! I digress. Before
reaching the Ettinheights we needed to transverse the river. Heading downstream
we found a ford for safer passage across. It didn’t stop Burglekutt and Adalius
from struggling. 3.0 was unstoppable as always and just walked through the river
like it was nothing. The village of dark shelf quarry was nestled at the foot
of the mountains. It was the
town Mayor/local drunk Nayster that had the answers to our questions. So
apparently a new foreman named Bazili and his elf friend Glyrthiel had taken
over the quarry. The humans from the village work the day shift (man they look
real tired) and the dwarves come in for the night shift. Nayster went on to say
that no one was allowed to enter at night. Red flag number one. There was also
another traveller by the name of Kwan that went to investigate the quarry a few
weeks back, but he never returned. Red flag number two. To sweeten things up,
he offered some cheap stone in exchange for finding out what is going on in the
quarry and to find what has happened to Kwan. After
getting all the information we could, we went to scout out the quarry. I had
hoped to get some good snooping done before we drew any attention to ourselves.
Artemis had other ideas and wanted to secure some stone before delving too deep
into whatever was going on. No Artemis, bad, can’t you see all the red flags?!
At least notice the strangely high security for a place that houses rocks. We
weren’t even allowed to enter with our weapons. Naturally I hid a dagger in the
usual place. Glyrtheil is
the brains behind whatever operation is going on. I didn’t like her from the
start. The bitch tried to rip us off, then ‘excused’ herself when we asked
about Kwan. Clearly a front to get the guards to kill us. A dagger isn’t
enough to do the job and most of the parties’ weapons were stashed away. Adalius
and Dupre got up to their antics and made a B-line for the weapons cache. The
number of guards didn’t make up for their lack of training and my desperation to
get some castle renovating done. The few surviving guards surrendered and were
loose lipped. I knew the
elf and the dwarves were getting up to some shady shit, but it turns out that
there is a full-blown slaving operation. Oh, there are more than just dwarves
working. Sounds like bugbears and other humanoids are pitching in. The families
of the slaves are being held hostage, which could complicate things, plus from what
I can gather they are indoctrinating the slaves as well. Another piece of good
news. Bazili the foreman isn’t a dwarf; he is an orc...wonderful. Catching
our breath after questioning, we searched around. Looks like storage rooms and
guest rooms for the most part. There is some fancy shit here. I might just help
myself to this and that. Oh that would look good in the castle, yes yes. Ok back to
the task at hand. Being forewarned that there are more guards further into the
facility. We slowly approached the next area. Wait… Adalius is running away.
Curse you Adalius with your sudden but enviable betrayal!
