Token links to character mancer lost when I duplicate player character

Please assist me with a link or explanation of what I might be doing wrong... I found OLD OLD OLD posts asking the same thing but with no solution, so is this working as intended or am I doing something wrong?(Because this can't be as working as intended surely). Can someone please explain why the links are lost if the source (character mancer) has all the correct information that the token can pull from. Here is the exact flow of what I have to do. I create a called character called Bill. Set the token up perfectly. Works between pages, dynamic to the character sheet. I duplicate Bill to get "Copy of Bill". I use the edit button to rename "Copy of Bill" to Ted. Drag Ted in to the play area. The token still points to Bill (which seems really counter intuitive or a bug). Change the "represents character" to the Ted Lose all links HP, AC, Passive Perception , so I have to re link all of the things the token had set up on it. Re assign the default token in the edit page WTF am I doing wrong?! Please help. This is really annoying especially if I'm in a game with player's waiting and any mistake in those steps will cause a screw up. I know you can link several tokens to one pre made character/monster so that they all share stats(if you wanted to use different images), but why isn't the "token > character" / "character > token" able to point to the exact variables, which I have to manually reassign, that were also on the original character?!

A default token is really a separate construct from a character journal. When you duplicate a journal, it does nothing to the saved default token. It just has a link to a default token that points to the original character. You are doing nothing wrong, but have just stumbled upon a quirk of Roll20. A default token must be set up specifically for a character. I agree it is counterintuitive, but it's one of those things that once you discover it and get used to it, ceases to even register anymore. It's just the way Roll20 works.
I guess this is one of those odd occasions where I was not doing something wrong but I would have been happier to find out I was. Thank you for your reply

I also wish it worked the other way. :)
