Is there any way to limit vision distance for players?

So I'm trying to make a map for a sea-faring adventure of sorts, but one issue is that players would be able to see enemy ships and whatnot from far away when realistically they shouldn't. Is there a way to limit vision for them so that only tokens within say ~3 hexes are actually visible, while keeping the rest of the map otherwise bright and all? Or is the GM layer the only answer?

You could use Fog of War.  Then they would only see what you reveal to them.
Unfortunately there is no 'maximum vision distance' setting, though it is something that has been suggested by others ( but not enough traction to remain as an open suggestion ).

Use Dynamic Lighting and reveal the entire board to them. They will have a greyed out "memory" of the map, but not be able to see any tokens unless they move into whatever circle of light/vision you give their token. The downshot would be that the map would be dim and grey for them beyond that radius. There are some API solutions. I am assuming since you are asking about vision, you are playing in a game that has Dynamic Lighting. Dies it also have API?
