Bryan K. said: First I would start by picking a version, and reading the rules for it. The latest version of D&D (5e) is what I learned from and I feel like it's a great starting point for anyone. It seems very friendly to new players. You can pick up the basic rules to learn for free (PDF) from the Wizards of the Coast site. http://www.wizards.com/ I personally don't mind assisting players who are at least willing to read the rules. If you need someone to read the rules to you / for you. I'm going to wish you good luck in finding that. So, my post is a little bit stretched from the truth at this moment. Last night, I managed to join Ajax's Pathfinder one-shot so I have gotten a taste how everything works. My problem with 5e is that, from what I've heard from my LGS, it is far from friendly to new players. I have dabbled before in a couple of DnD things, including having a very difficult session as a first time player going straight into the role of GM. Needless to say, it didn't go so hot. I've GM'd for D&D 3.5e. No combat, however, and it didn't feel like D&D to me. The Pathfinder one-shot was great, though and I would love to become more involved in Pathfinder. As long as we could find a willing GM, I'd be more than willing to play with you. (:
