Infinite loading in any game I join, no matter the browser

March 12 (3 years ago)

Edited March 12 (3 years ago)

I normally use Opera GX and even if it says it is not supported I haven't encountered any obvious problems. Today however, when I tried joining the game I DM I came across an infinite loading screen. I tried clearing the cache, turning off add-ons, I don't have any third party anti-virus and I couldn't find anything about Windows Defender messing with Roll20. I tried switching to Chrome, cleared Chrome's cache and add-ons and I still get the infinite loading screen, both in the games I DM and in games that I'm just a player, nothing seems to load. Any help ? Additionally, opening an incognito window didn't work neither.
EDIT: After changing to a mobile hotspot, the game loads just fine. The game acts as if the internet cable doesn't exist. It's even more confusing because it's the only internet-reliant app that has any problems.

I have the same problem! I try to join the games i'm in and it just infitely loads, I have tried everything I could think of, sent requests through the help center, asked around on reddit, and have yet to get any response, I hope we get an answer soon.

If you are the GM and if you able to access the Turn Tracker despite the loading screen, try opening it up and clearing all turns. Some users have found that that breaks them out of the loading loop.

Clearing the Turn Order did not work. It had no turns in it at any rate. I was able to access it by using mobile. Using the hotspot from the phone seems to make it work on the PC aswell, which is really weird.

Check to see the firewall status of both "networks."  I bet you its your firewall for your home network preventing the connection.  Or your AV firewall.  If you are in a dorm of some sort for college, a tyrannical ISP could be to blame too.

Firewall doesn't seem to hinder anything, I don't even know how it could only block the roll20 games, since the rest of the pages work fine. I even tried turning off the firewall and no result. I'm currently at home, on my own cable connection, so I doubt that the ISP would do something.

Roll20 editor url uses webGL which is very very often blocked by strict firewalls and Antivirus.  Infact if the page is not fully loading the VTT and its a black VTT space, thats the webGL being blocked.

Bump.

Same issue. Tried multiple campaigns, DM or otherwise, it doesn't matter. It just won't load.

I tried clearing the cache, I tried clearing any user settings, I tried disabling anti-virus software, firewalls, re-enabling them one by one, still nothing.

Talked to other people, everyone else seems to be fine.

I tried switching browsers, from OperaGX to Chrome, same story, no difference.

I'm running out of ideas to be honest.

Hey folks, if you haven't already, please submit a request through our web form.

If you already have submitted a request, we've likely sent a reply to get some more information to help narrow down the cause of the issue.

We've heard some reports of VPN usage being a valid workaround. We're unable to confirm what is directly causing the problem, but please include your general location and if attempting to use a VPN helps when submitting so we can gauge whether this is a centralized problem.

Yes, the built in VPN of Opera works to circumvent the problems
