Problem with Dynamic Lighting and character without dark vision

March 12 (3 years ago)

Hi,

I encountered an issue with dynamic lighting.

On a map lit with torches, a character without dark vision will be able to see until it gets to a dark spot (eg, end of a tunnel with all the light sources behind him). This is kind of correct.

However, when the character turns around, he is still blinded. The vision does not come back. Is this a known issue? Any way to correct this?

I initially thought the torches on the map layer is causing the issue but when I shift them to the token layer, the same is still observed.

Thanks.

Map Setting:

  • Dynamic Lighting On
  • Explorer Mode On
  • Everything else is Off

Character Token Setting:

  • Token Vision On
  • Limit Field of Vision On 107 degrees 180 degrees (For some reason, if I do not flip this, the vision is behind the token)
  • Everything else is Off

Torch Token Setting:

  • Token Emits Light On
  • Bright Light 20'
  • Dim Light 20'
  • Everything else is Off

Sounds like a typical UDL bug but I am having a hard time visualizing your problem.

The problem happens once the character without dark vision gets to a dark area and reenters an area with light. The dynamic lighting does not turn back on when the character leaves the dark area even though it should.

Is this a known bug?

Found the root of the problem. The issue is with copy-and-paste torches (or any other light sources). If I simply copy-and-paste the torches without changing any of the dynamic lighting settings on those tokens, the dynamic lights do not "move" with these torches and is still centered around the original torch. Once I make a change in the setting, like increase the range, save, and then change the range back. It works as it should. Not ideal but at least now I know how to work around this issue.

That is definitely a bug, and should be reported. I don't think I've heard anyone else having that specific issue, so maybe it'll get named after you! :D
