I don't know if it was working on the character sheet. I fixed it by going opening the character sheet tab, clicking the cog wheel in the top-ish right under experience point, under auto damage roll - select don't auto roll damage, then reselect auto roll damage and crit. and it started working. I recognize this as likely an uninitialized flag variable that should be very easy to fix. and i was 2 clicks away from going back to d&d beyond.
