This game will require payment to the Game Master at a rate of US$25 per weekly session, due at the start of the session, through a 3 rd party site. Roll20 is not responsible for any payment transactions and cannot enforce any private arrangements. Curse of Strahd is possibly the most successful module released so far for 5th edition D&D. It offers a unique setting compared to the other official adventures. Even though the heroes come from a land of high fantasy, they find themselves trapped in a Gothic nightmare-realm ruled by a despotic vampire lord. Slowly they realise that defeating this tyrant is their only ticket home, but to do that they must learn about the history of this accursed land and discover artifacts of power that will attract the dread lord's attention. This is not a world of sparkly, tortured, romantic souls with a dreadful secret, but of a monstrous, predatory villain cursed by his own decisions. Tread carefully. The land of Barovia corrupts even those who come here with the best intentions. The game utilises unique mechanics, including a madness track developed by Matt Mercer. The Curse of Strahd is not a typical D&D 5e adventure. While it incorporates all three of the classic "pillars of D&D" (exploration, social interaction, and combat) the way they are each addressed varies. It is not typical for players to go for several levels without rolling initiative, but the combat encounters that do take place can be devastating and involve losses and sacrifice. The adventure rewards players for exploration and discovery (the primary method by which success is measured is locating the mystical artifacts required to defeat the titular villain), but ultimately it leads to an inevitable confrontation with the dread lord at the height of his power. In terms of mechanics: we will mostly be using the maps provided in the official module on Roll20, both for exploration and combat. All official content for the Forgotten Realms setting will be made available to you. There are some campaign specific additional rules, including Matt Mercer's "corruption" mechanic. All of this will be addressed at session zero. If you have any additional questions before signing up, please feel free to reach out. While the campaign might address difficult and potentially triggering subjects, it is never intended to make the players feel uncomfortable or unwelcome at the "table". Please let me know immediately, if something is preventing you from enjoying the game, and we will solve the problem out of character. Any language or behaviour that makes other players feel unwelcome or unsafe will not be tolerated. Play will begin at level 1, and characters should be level 10 by the time they have their lost confrontation with Strahd. All players will level at the same pace with milestones. We will create characters together during session zero. For the first time, we will be using character options and mechanics from the new campaign guide for Ravenloft. As always, I am available to answer any questions you might have about the content of the campaign, the playstyle, and any concerns you might have. Send me a direct message, and ask for my Discord ID if you would like to have a longer chat.
