Skills Section on Character Sheet

Hi all, I am new to DnD and to this forum, so I apologise if this is the wrong place to ask this. On the Roll 20 character sheet, in the skills section... when I click one of the skills does it automatically add my proficiency to the result that pops up in chat? Looking at my skills right now, some are ticked and some not - I assume the ticked are the ones I am proficient in... However, some of the ones not ticked still have a number beside them which is confusing me... some are 1 and others have a 2. Does this mean I am slightly proficient or something? Or do these numbers have nothing to do with proficiency? Sorry, but I am new.

However, some of the ones not ticked still have a number beside them which is confusing me... some are 1 and others have a 2. That's the bonus from the stat the skill is using. Your dexterity mod is always added to your Stealth skill, if you're proficient in stealth your Proficiency bonus is also added to the skill. https://www.5esrd.com/using-ability-scores/#Skills This is assuming you're talking about D&D 5E, but it also applies some other similar games.
Ah, ok. Thanks. And yes, I am talking about 5e
