[LFP] [5e] [EST] [Tuesdays] [Dark Sun] [Campaign]

Hello friends, Thank you for taking a look at this game! TLDR: We are running one-shots to find 2 new players (looking for preferably at least one woman) for a new campaign with our long running group. We are looking for players who love story and are more interested in roleplay than min-maxing. We are not concerned about your level of experience and welcome newbies and veterans alike. A Few Questions to answer in your responses: What do you most enjoy when playing D&D? What would you most want to have in a D&D campaign? What kind of characters do you like to play or are interested in playing (not class but the general things that attract you to a character)? About the Group: I am part of a long running D&D 5e game that just finished a campaign of about 2 years. We play weekly and are looking for a new player. Our current group is 4 players and are looking for more to round it out, specifically we are looking for a woman to balance out the sexes for a more even party. *Please don’t leave me alone with the boys! JK, they are all great guys, but more of a female presence would be nice. As players, we like to joke around and laugh and have a good time both in and outside of the game, but we take the story and our characters seriously. We have developed friendships that we all treasure and look forward to adding to our ragtag bunch. We are eager to help and support each other in and out of game and eager to tell the story of our heroic adventurers. About the Game: The game takes place in the world of Dark Sun. It is a harsh world that really needs heroes. It can be rather dark, but the stories we tell are hopeful and not grim dark as the setting might suggest. There are generally 1-2 combats per session, depending on the story of course, and they can sometimes be lethal (I lost a character last campaign). However, the game is more focused on story than combat, and has had plenty of moments of heroism, excitement, romance, and tragedy.  Overall, if you are familiar with something like Critical Role then you have an idea of how the game is run and the tone we tend to follow. What are we looking for? We are looking for players who might fit well into the group, particularly a woman or two, who is enthusiastic and loves to roleplay. It doesn’t matter if you are brand new and never played before, one of our players has only ever played in this game, or if you are a veteran of many campaigns and have adventured from Dragonlance to Ravenloft. Our number one concern is someone who is eager to play and enjoys roleplay and the story elements that dungeon and dragons can offer. We are going to be running some oneshots first, so no pressure, and you can see how we play and meet our DM, a super cool and smart guy who I know is reading this 😊. This way, both you and our DM can get a feel for the type of game we play and if we are a good match or not. Thanks for your time and look forward to seeing your response!
Hello there, What time would your games be? Me and my girlfriend were looking for a new group to join. I'm 28 and she is 26, if that matters. My girlfriend is a newer player, but she is great at the role playing aspect of D&D. I think one of the greater things about D&D would be the story telling. I listen to a few different D&D podcasts, and enjoy hearing the story that unfolds. I think seeing how a story unfolds based off of the players actions is my favorite aspect of the game. I think a good story is all I really look for in a campaign. As for characters, The greatest things that draw me to a character are typically characters with fun, memorable personalities.
Hi there! I'm also interested as to the timeslot on Tuesdays, I'm available after 6pm. My name is Thumper, 27, and I've played about 6 sessions of 5e now so I have some experience under my belt. I'm very much interested in a story-heavy group to try out with some oneshots. And I am non-binary (they/them pronouns), so while I'm not a woman per se I'm also not a guy, if that helps at all haha. I most enjoy coming up with unconventional solutions to problems in-game and enabling other players to get their characters to shine or develop them further with mine, it really makes the story so much more engrossing when you're learning about your own character as the tale unfolds. I would most want to have a complex story that is very much affected (both positively and negatively) by player actions and where there's ample time for everyone to get their moments of focus, where the group is able to buckle down and get serious to try and save a PC but also can end up laughing so hard we're in tears because someone got a nat 1 performance and made a buffoon of themselves.  I like to play a big variety of characters, from a nobleborn daughter neurotically obsessed with being PERFECT (yes, think Courage the Cowardly Dog) and knowing she failed, to a life cleric who had to kill the love of his life and not bring her back and now helps others leave this life in the same peace, to a gladiator fighter himbo who just likes swingin ropes and trying to get his double-backflip-headstab just right so he gets more coin. I like seeing a niche that needs to be filled in a group and really making something interesting out of those constraints, though I do tend towards intellectual types as I like being able to do investigation/arcana/history checks to learn more about any given situation. Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you, Thumper
Anytime after 3 would be good for me. Willing to play a female if you can't find one. Can't play after 10pm as I work nights. Familiar with the setting and even read a few of the novels a few years ago.
Hey Rebecca! I am definitely interested in being able to join (try out) for your group if spots are still available. My name is Kelsey, 32, and I teach Kindergarten (5-6 year olds). I have only  played one campaign with some friends, but it has been going on for almost two years. We were all brand new so some of the more minute details in the game we tended to overlook in order to get to more of the story telling and fighting (like rations and how much you can carry). I do tend to learn things quickly though.  Honestly I would say I enjoy the social aspect of playing D&D a lot. Since I was playing with all my friends, and we live in different states and countries, it's been a fun way to keep in touch and have fun. We only spend a small amount of time chatting about our actual lives so I can stick to the game play, but I do enjoy after or in between session chatting and having fun. I also like the game play aspect as a whole, both role playing and combat.  D&D allows you to play a game and immerse yourself in it more than regular board games.  My current D&D campaign is a mix of a Princes of Apocalypse and my DM using our backstories to create her own content and events for us. I have enjoyed and really liked that aspect; there being a set storyline we can follow or a made up adventure we get ourselves into. I'm not really picky as I tend to be pretty chill about most things. It would also be fun to have one were there can be those tense moments but also hilarious ones. In general for any game I tend to play tanks, however, I am not the leader. I tend to act as the shield for others or decoy while others do their ranged attacks. My current character is a Fighter, who is actually intelligent, and was allowed to go with the Eldrich Knight build. I like having weapons but also some magic to balance it out. Normally I lean towards good aligned but never lawful because that never seemed as much fun to me. My characters tend to have higher intelligence and constitution and lack in the Charisma department (I don't tend to intimidate anyone). I play nice with others and have only friendly fired on our bard who tried to steal my pet. Thanks for willing to let others join your group and look forward to hear from you! Kelsey
Hey there! My wife and I are looking for a game to play, as we're both pretty passionate D&D players. I started playing D&D 5E in 2014 while she has been playing D&D in general since the early 2000's. What do you most enjoy when playing D&D? I enjoy a game where a DM presents encounters/situations that have multiple solution possibilities. As an example, I love having the option to RP my way through an encounter, combat my way through an encounter, or to utilize some other way/method to get through/around/away from the encounter. Not all of these solutions need to be equally viable either. Engaging in combat with an Ancient Red Dragon as a level 5 PC is almost certainly going to be a bad idea, but having the freedom to make that choice is important to me. Personally, I would probably go with either a negotiation or attempt to run away, but getting out of an encounter with an Ancient Red Dragon alive  is going to be considered a win for me. All that said, I enjoy the collective story-telling that comes from a game of D&D. DM's are a huge part of telling that story, but it's the group working together that really breathes life into a campaign. Having that cohesiveness is the most important part of a game, and finding that happy place is what I enjoy most when playing D&D. What would you most want to have in a D&D campaign? I want the ability to have my choices make an impact on the world. All too often I see people focus on the large scale effect that their actions have; I'm more concerned with the small scale actions and impacts. As an example, giving 10 gold to a commoner could be absolutely life-changing to said commoner, but could mean absolutely nothing to a typical adventurer. Now as a Player, I love seeing the impacts of that 10 gold play out. Did someone see me give 10 gold to that commoner? Did it possibly cause them to get mugged or pickpocketed on the way home? Or perhaps nothing bad happened to them and they were able to put the 10 gold to work on building a business. Perhaps they started a sandwich delivery service in the city they live in, creating a whole new business that the city didn't even know they needed. I've never had too much of an issue with it, but the thing I desire most in a D&D game is Player agency.   What kind of characters do you like to play or are interested in playing I typically enjoy playing Clerics and Bards, as I prefer "filling" whatever holes I see in a party. With this particular game though, I have a ranged Fighter concept that I'm really interested in trying out. I can detail the character in more depth if necessary. If that type of character isn't going to be a good fit, I'm completely open to finding a better fit for the party. If you still have room or want to talk further, shoot me a message and I'll give you more info!
Do you a slot for two people? Me and a Friend would love to play. Discord: Selmk#7753
Are you still looking for players or full up? I love Dark Sun and I used to play and DM Dark Sun back when it first came out. Read the paperback Dark Sun novels as well. I'm very interested in playing a Dark Sun campaign. What do you most enjoy when playing D&D? Story telling and group interaction. I enjoy participating in the storytelling of the GM and seeing how it plays out in relation to the various members of the player group. I like roleplaying in a group that is open to roleplaying, but doesn't require it to be a necessity the entire game. By roleplaying I mean players interacting with each other and creating group dynamics or at least group experiences that amount to more than just make an attack roll and then make a damage roll.  What would you most want to have in a D&D campaign? Depends on the type of campaign. With the sourcebook campaigns, I like to see how the GM handles telling the story set forth in the book and how they perhaps alter it to fit their campaign but still play the story out largely in the context of the sourcebook. With homebrew campaigns, I like to see how the GM can create the story set within the specific game or world. I also like to see how the GM can make things personal for characters regarding backstory and also how the GM creates things which resonate with the players as far as the player actions affecting the story/gameworld. Also Like a good mix of exploration, roleplaying and combat.  What kind of characters do you like to play or are interested in playing I'll play anything, I often tend to wait and see what other people are playing class/race and play something else to avoid doubling up and also avoid making another player feel ineffective or put out by playing near the same thing they are. I'll pick a race and then create a personality usually before picking a class. I tend to enjoy classes/characters/builds that mix melee and magic, but I'll always be ready to play something else, even the healer (ugh hehe). I like to roleplay a character more than the average player, I do quirks and even character voices. So yeah I'm very interested in this if you have a slot open yet.
A Few Questions to answer in your responses: What do you most enjoy when playing D&D? In a nutshell? Making memories. Whether it's that one time someone rolled a nat20 on their death save and turned the tide in a fight we were sure to lose, that other time someone had an epic RP moment right out of a blockbuster movie, or simple the inside jokes that make me laugh no matter how many times they're brought up. What would you most want to have in a D&D campaign? Fun! For me, that is normally the result of a game with realistic characters, and laid-back players. I prefer DMs who adhere closely to the rules but aren't afraid to ad hoc something when the time calls for it. What kind of characters do you like to play or are interested in playing (not class but the general things that attract you to a character)? In a vacuum, I tend to gravitate towards caster/melee hybrids, but I will usually use the group composition to help myself choose between a number of different ideas rattling around in my head. I try to alternate between all different personality types for my different characters to keep it interesting. Here's my really long copy-pasta for more information if you're interested. Hi! My name's Adam (He/Him), 30 years old, and around 6 years ago I started playing D&D for the first time in many, many years. I play and DM frequently in a west marches group and would like to add a regular, longterm campaign to my schedule =). Only open on Monday/Tuesday evenings (EST), at the moment. Ideally I would be looking for a descriptive DM who adheres closely to the rules but isn't afraid to make things up as obscure situations or requests arise, while being fair to the game and players alike. I would also expect the DM to put time into making the world work as a realistic environment, including fleshed out characters, and maps where appropriate (combat encounters in particular). I'm totally fine with new DMs, as long as they are quick learners and open to a slow-drip of advice outside of games. I have several character ideas in the works; "might makes right" conq paladin, bumbling grav wizard, excitable/youthful storm sorc, and more. My only pet peeve that I can think of from players/DMs is an excess of immersion breaking, in-world sillyness, an example being a rogue I played with always going on about his character sipping a mojito. All. The. Time. Making jokes is great, making the world into a joke... not so much. My brand of humour is normally dry or based on wordplay, but I appreciate all kinds. People find me fun to play with because I always have an accent for my characters, and am not shy about speaking in character. I have a list of guidelines that I use when making characters. Things they (dis)like, beliefs, superstitions, goals, "knives" (google D&D knife theory), ect. I am extremely familiar with the rules, so I am unlikely to slow down games with questions or mistakes. I have excellent attendance, and can not think of anything in my known future that would disturb that. I enjoy combat, it satisfies my problem solving itches, but I also enjoy RP, provided that my fellow players are good/fun RPers. The more fun one aspect is, the less I'll miss the other. Exploration and dungeon delving are also high up there, political intrigue a bit less so. I normally play melee/caster hybrids, but have played many characters over the last 5 years and am always looking for something new. I often wait for the rest of the party to choose, then settle into whatever niche is left. Please let me know if you think we would get on well. Thanks for reading. Discord = Asuul#7512
