Greetings! Set in the evocative and ever-expanding world of Age of Sigmar our campaign revolves around the titular Spiral Step in the Realm of Metal, Chamon. It is played using the Grim and Perilous System within Age of Sigmar: Soulbound in which the Player Characters are not the chosen of the gods but mortal men and women facing the horrors of the realms with faith and steel. For more information, please visit our Wiki linked below as it lays out everything regarding the campaign, from setting to character creation rules! https://aoss-the-spiral-step.fandom.com/wiki/AoS:S_The_Spiral_Step_Wiki For those who are unfamiliar with the Soulbound system, and do not want to pick up the books without testing the game, while our campaign may not be a perfect example of standard Soulbound play, as we are using an alternative system, we are more than happy to give you everything you need to give it a try with one of our pre-gen character templates. On the Wiki is a link to our campaign Discord, where we can organize games, and below are a few FAQs that help illustrate the goal of the campaign. What is a West Marches campaign? As defined by Sly Flourish, that can generally be answered with these tenets: There's no regular scheduled time. There's no fixed group of players; players can drop in and out each session. The players determine the direction of the game. The DM sets out potential challenges and the players choose which ones to follow. There's no overarching storyline; the game is about exploration, discovery, and treasure. We would be holding true to each of these, save for the last as there will be overarching storylines regarding the capture and survival of the city but that is mainly just focused events and enemies - how the players respond and thus what happens as a result is up to them. Why a West Marches campaign? Beyond an increased ease of scheduling and finding games (and not having to be the forever GM) a West Marches style, alongside the Grim and Perilous system, allows for an experience focused on "life in the realms." With (hopefully) far more players than a normal campaign and the ability to interact with all of them I hope to create a "living world" feeling to the campaign akin to a RP-heavy MMO. It will also be a great act of collaborative storytelling as players and GMs alike flesh out the people and cultures of the Step and we craft our own little piece of Chamon. Why Grim and Perilous? Default Soulbound play has you taking on the mantle of great heroes chosen by the gods themselves, your able to take on beasts of legend and champions of enemy forces and emerge victorious. This is all well and good but its not indicative of how life is for your common Freeguild soldier, even one who by his peers would be considered heroic in their achievements. The Grim and Perilous system allows us to have characters that represent the "average" heroes of the realms, who face down what horrors it offers with steel and faith. It also leans into the increased danger that West Marches style campaigns are known for. If you have any questions please feel free to voice them and I will answer ASAP!
