The Realm Beyond is an RP-heavy grimdark fantasy for audiences above 18 where combat is dangerous and choices have consequences. Our game takes place in Acroshia, a prosperous nation in the center of a desert so vast and punishing that Folk fear to name it. Acroshia is a theocratic autocracy ruled by Mhim, a possibly-immortal figure who is revered as a god. A pluralistic but human-dominated kingdom, Acroshia can be brutal to outsiders, but it also offers wealth and power to those competent and courageous enough to stand up to the evils that plague it from without and within. Acroshia has the feel of a 12th century Caliphate and draws inspiration from Saharan and North African cultures. The setting takes inspiration from the Souls-borne franchise, Lovecraftian Horror, Game of Thrones-like politics & societal hierarchies and institutions similar to that of Warhammer 40k. It will appeal to fans of Dune, Dark Sun, and One Thousand and One Nights. Major themes include race/class-conflict, religious extremism and the occult, assimilation versus individualism, and the navigation of morally-ambiguous situations. Our setting is not an appropriate place for pre-existing characters who come from different genres or cultural context. Open to new experiences Cooperative, collaborative, self-aware, and above all respectful of GMs and fellow players. We would prefer if you have previous experience with roleplaying, D&D 5e, and Roll20. If you are new to any of the above, it is imperative that you are willing to learn.
