"Apply Default Settings" did not update existing tokens

I have set Game Default Settings > Token Settings > Player Permissions > Name > See = TRUE  and Game Default Settings > Token Settings > Player Permissions > Bar1 > See = TRUE.  I then launched the game, went to My Settings > Miscellaneous > Apply Default Settings > Default Token Settings and checked Enable Nameplate, Show Name to Players, and Show Bar 1 to Players and clicked Apply Settings. After waiting for the game to update I clicked "Re-Join as Player" to check the existing tokens on the page and none of them updated. I know from this post  by kiethcurtis that the default token that is saved in the character sheet will not update, but I expected that all existing tokens on pages would be updated.   Are there additional steps that have to be taken to update existing tokens on pages? Add'l info if needed, I am using a Market Place Module, Call of the Netherdeep and I want to change the tokens set up by Roll20 in this module to match our gaming preferences.   TIA!
Tried to include these screenshots in original post, but was getting an error message.

It took several minutes for the progress bar to full update (on a pokey old Chromebook), but all of the placed tokens updated for me, using the settings and procedure you detailed. Just checking if the bar finished--it's thin and very easy to miss. Here is a player view:

I repeated the steps and now it worked - I do remember when I did it the first time I clicked off the tab in my browser and looked at something else while I waited for it to update, perhaps that interfered with it somehow?  I did see the progress bar complete both times, but there was a confirmation message when I tried it again today, that I don't remember being there last time.   Thanks for the quick reply - next time I'll try twice before I post. p.s. I just updated the default whisper settings w/ the instructions in your work-around here . I stayed on the same tab in my browser and got the confirmation message both times, but it didn't actually update the settings the first time. It did work as expected after the second try.

Hmm... I'll experiment more when I have time. Not sure what might be going awry. Still, glad you've got things working, even though it took a couple of tries for it to resolve.
> "when I have time" ha ha ha we play ttrpgs, we don't have any free time!  But thanks again for your help!
