WHAT: Old School Essentials is a popular rule set that mimics the rules of old school DnD. Dolmenwood is a Weird/Fairy themed setting made by the creator of OSE. The Campaign being a sandbox/hexcrawl means that I'll prep locations and quest hooks, but it is up to the players on where they want to go and what they want to pursue. WHEN: Either Friday or Sunday 1630-1930 PST, up to player consensus. Three weeks a month, one week off. HOW: Discord for voice chat and Roll20 for the game. No webcam required. Players: I already have two, we're in our mid to late twenties. Looking for 1-3 more. Myself: I have DMed many one-shots/short adventures of various different systems for a year now. This will be my first attempt at an actual campaign. 5E vs Old School DnD?: Some people may be curious about the newest generation of DnD compared to the older school variants. In general I'd say heroes are a little more down to earth in old school variants. Combat tends to be simpler and thus much faster and deadlier than 5e, magic and magic items are also much more rare. Personally I play and enjoy both, neither is really better than the other, just different experiences. Additional: The basic rules for OSE are available for free online and I will provide everything else, so no need to buy anything if you want to play. In addition I will be using additional homebrew and variant rules that I'll go over before we start, they're intended to make the game a little more interesting, not harder. As said in the title, new players are always welcome! Whether to this specific rule set or role playing entirely.
