Character "Get To Know You Post"

I wanted to post this topic so players, if they wish, can provide a little flavor for the game by posting character descriptions, background, quotes, whatever about the characters that they play. I know we can look at other's sheets and stuff, but how about in one place? It doesn't have to be anything detailed or elaborate, or anything at all, really, if only a simple description or some background details. I personally think this kind of stuff adds more depth to the game..and it's fun. I really enjoyed writing this for Flame (next post).

"My true name is Velca Rus'Nyelle, but you may call me Flame Foxbelle, as I am known in the language of men. For the past twenty years I have been driven by an insatiable wanderlust. I have traveled to strange and distant lands that most have never seen nor heard of." "Two decades ago my home and my people were utterly destroyed by a scourge of savage, bloodthirsty giants. I narrowly escaped with my life. For many moons I mourned the loss of my family and my friends... and especially my mate. " "Regardless of my tragic misfortune, I believe that the goddess Meilikki has shown me favor, for I am the only surviving member of my family.. I have been called upon to honor the ancient traditions of my people and it is up to me, and me alone, to to ensure that their name enters legend." Epilogue: Flame is wise beyond his (252) years. He has seen and experienced wonders of the natural world that many can only dream of. He strongly believes that forces of nature, through spirits both benevolent and malign, guide and mold the lives of all living things. To Flame, all forms of life are children of nature who are protected, and often tormented, by spirits that are drawn into their lives. Flame often seeks out benevolent forest spirits and fey creatures to converse with, for he speaks their language, taught to him long ago by the ancient and wise Archdruid, Novus Redfrost. Flame is very superstitious and has an almost crippling fear of evil spirits. In his youth he was enslaved for a short time by an especially cruel banshee, and he has never been the same since. Personality Traits: I am driven by an insatiable wanderlust and I find it difficult to stay in one place for long periods of time. I’m always picking things up, absently fiddling with them, and sometimes accidentally breaking them. Ideals: Nature. The natural world is more important than all the constructs of civilization. Bonds: I am the last surviving member of my family, and it is up to me to ensure their names enter legend. Flaws: I am superstitious and have an innate fear of evil spirits. Wood Elf Ranger, Outlander/Guide, Favored Enemy: Giants, Natural Explorer: Forests, Chaotic Good, Worships Meilikki, Goddess of the Hunt

Rinn Lonesome Rinn was born in a usual elven village on the border between the old elven kingdoms and the new rising human lands. Until she was six life were simple, a little farming and learning from the village elders. Yet several weeks after turning six Rinn's village was raided by a human force, they invaded the elven lands and conquered her village. Most were enslaved, many were killed, and Rinn found herself being sold into slavery in the growing city of Beywich. Being as young as she was, and being as useless as she could be, finding a buyer was a harsh job and eventually, with very little care for her, she managed to escape her holders. Being unmarked as a slave, she could easily melt into the city. For a whole year she lived alone in the streets, taking over the name Rinn for the first time. She discovered the human city was not really only human. Plenty of elves and dwarves and halflings found a living in the city. In fact some elven temples existed as well, among the non-believer humans. She found food and aid here and there, but for the rest of her life Rinn was an urchin. She lived among the streets, living from mouth to hand. She learned every street, and battled with ther children who were orphans of Beywich. It was a day after her sixteen birthday, a day she herself completly missed, when Theron came to her. He gave her some food and offered her a good meal if she will join him to his monestary. She found the place to look like a simple temple, with no gods. She was surprised to meet elven monks there as well, they trained with elven weapons beside the monk ones. She ate the food offered to her and found it is simple, but the best food she have had in many years. Theron wished her a happy birthday, reminding her of the day she missed. He was a good man, and Rinn felt perhaps she could give him a tiny shred of trust. She asked if one of the elven monks would teach her to use elven weapons. Theron promised that will be arranged in return for a favor, she will also come to listen to his spiritual training. Rinn remained in the monestary. She studied and learned, and by the age of 18 she officially became a monk. The day after Theron met with her again. He was the first creature she have trusted for many years. He asked her what is her dream, and she responded she wishes to trust life again, and to make sure no other child will lose faith in life again. He smiled and gave her unique robes. Rinn now helped teach children she found in the streets to join the monestary. As many as they could feed and teach. Now five years after while going around in the market a person came to her, offering her a few coins in return for her to deliver a package. She agreed, entering what may be the biggest part of her life yet... Personality traits: *I sleep with my back to a wall or tree, with everything I own wrapped in a bundle in my arms. *I like to squeeze into small places where no one else can get to me. Ideas: *People. I help the people who help me—that’s what keeps us alive. Bonds: *I owe a debt I can never repay to the person who took pity on me. Flaws: *It’s not stealing if I need it more than someone else. Forest Elf Monk, Urchin, Lawful Good

"I was born and raised in a small town to the south of Beywich. My parents are both human, and are still alive to the best of my knowledge. I was born into the middle of a large family, Forth out of seven children. I Idolized my eldest brother Belenos. My father was a roofer in Beywich before he met my mother and the settled down. My mother was a leather worker. Money was always tight growing up. I was brought up not believing in any gods, like my parents before me. Due to my height I was bullied as a child, they saw me as an easy target. Eventually I had enough of it and became a Laborer like my father, to gain strength. After some time I had found myself in Beywich and had somehow proven myself in a lesser crime family. Being a henchman was no easy task and though it learned many useful skills and abilitys. I was payed well in both gold and praise, as I was very good at what I did. However It didn't last long as power shifted and the family was torn apart, it couldn't have come at a more convenient time, it was time to pave my own way in the world. Shorty after, I found myself thrust into a romantic relationship, I truly thought myself in love, but as quick as it had started, my he had disappeared. After a time I had found my place in a very small village, two or three homes. There I met a young woman raising two of her younger siblings. We typically would spend most of the days trapping and hunting wildlife, neither of which I was particularly skilled with. I have always found myself never quite doing good or bad, life is a balancing act."

Amar're Aenor is a half-elf Cleric of the Light Domain who serves Naralis Analor an elven diety of healing and safeguarding. He began his life living with his human mother. It was a carefree childhood, he would help his mother tend the fields of their small village. When he wasn't in the fields with his mother he would spend hours watching the local alchemist at work, and many more hours gazing at the local guardsmen as they practiced their drills. It was just after his 13th birthday when everything changed. Late one afternoon just as he was heading from the fields back to his home, over 100 Orc raiders came marching into view on the horizon. Fear struck him just as it did for many of the townspeople, but he knew in his heart that he had to help the guards. He ran to the barracks of the town to try and arm himself. When he got there he grabbed the first weapon he saw but as he turned to return outside he ran into Garreth the leader of the town guard. Garreth spoke two words to him just before he knocked him unconscious, "Avenge Us". When he came to he was in a dank pit under the horse stable by the barracks. He could hear voices in the distance speaking a language he didn't know but it was thick and gutteral. The only words he remembered was a name that several different orcs had spoken. "Lord Tos Vallta". After the raiding party had left and he felt it safe to make his way out of the hole he was stashed in he wished that he hadn't. Everyone from the village had been slain and gutted. Amar're vomitted countless times as he gathered what he could from his home and made to leave for a place that he only knew of as a rumor. He did finally make it to that place 2 months later, after having traveled roads he had never seen before and scrounging for whatever food he could along the way. The place was an Elven temple of Naralis Analor that his father had once been stationed at. He took up sanctuary there for the next 20 years learning the ways of the elven priests there. School and combat training took up the majority of his days, but when he was able to read elven, he started scouring the library there for information on whom this "Lord Tos Vallta" was. Little piece of a giant puzzle started to be found and when he could find nothing more related the priest who was the custodian of the library pointed him in the direction of another larger temple where he would be able to research further. During his time at this temple who he was to become as an adult was beginning to form. He learned the tenets of Naralis Analor and was proud to bear them as his own; A person who cared about the suffering of others he was quick to do what could be done to aid them. A healer who showed signs of becoming a great hand for Naralis's healing power. A strong fighter who could don heavy armors and still maneuver the battlefield to dispense the needed aid. Sadly though the seed of bitter hatred was planted in his soul when his entire village was destroyed for no appearent reason by a man or rather an elf warlock who had been corrupted by one of the Ancient Old Ones. So it is thus that Amar're Aenor ended up in the city of Beywhich seeking the answers that would lead him to this Lord Tos Vallta who he has sworn to kill in retribution for his mother and friends and all the others that have been destroyed in the wake of whatever it is the Warlock is searching for. Personality Traits: I feel tremendous sympathy for those who suffer. Ideals: My gifts are meant to be shared with all for the greater good, not kept just for myself. Bonds: My isolation gave me great insight in to an evil whom I believe only I can destroy. Flaws: I harbor dark blood-thirsty thoughts that my isolation and meditation failed to quell. About Wes: I'm getting older, I work as a bread baker for a restaurant in Denver, CO. I'm enjoying getting back into gaming after taking a long hiatus. When not gaming I'm generally; playing computer games, watching football or movies, reading, mostly sci-fi and fantasy, or out on a bike ride. My favorite NPC is Minsc and his miniature giant space hamster from the Baulder's Gate series by Black Isle Studios.

"I grew up in the Guildhall, it's all I've really known" Alric says, his face drawn and downcast. He fiddles with one of his tools, removing a bit of gunk from the end. "When I was little, my mother died. Nothing terribly tragic, just sickness, but I never found out what was wrong with her. After that my father moved us out of our home... well I guess it was more of a shack... and into a rented room at the Guildhall." Alric's eyes brighten and his face becomes more open, "There was always so much to do, so much to learn, and for the first time in my life, people showed me how to find the answers to any question I had. As long as I looked hard enough, found the right books, asked the right people, the answers were waiting for me. New tools to be made and used to build new toys, every contraption had it's unique quirks of construction and implementation. I still remember the first time I worked out the compressed spring engine of my favorite clockwork toy." He begins speaking rapidly and with more fervor, "How if I decreased the volume of the casing the increased pressure generated against the coil of the spring directly translated to an increased power of the wheels. But then I had to consider the ratio of power to weight, because too much power used with too light a toy would just cause the wheels to spin and controlling the..." He pauses now, quickly shaking his head as though coming out of a trance, "Sorry... where was I..." "When I first discovered magic, for a while nothing else in the world mattered to me. I studied SO HARD for what seemed like an eternity before I could even cause the tip of my wand to light up. I still like casting that to remind myself of the beginnings and what is possible." he says, briefly pausing to cast light on the tip of his wand and admire the brilliant blue light he produced. Extinguishing the light, he continues. "The Guild always supported my magical training. I think they knew that having a magically inclined Tinker could produce wonders the likes of which had never been dreamed! I... I honestly owe them everything." He slows now, his eyes looking far into the past with a wistful tinge. "They raised me as much as my father did. Geric, Thulgor, Master Robern, they helped me become who I am, and gave me what I needed to become the Wizard I am today. I never even told them why I was leaving. I was researching new magics and I came across hints of... well... magical artifacts used for crafting, but they work on their own! Like clockwork toys that can make more of themselves! I don't know if they really exist, but I have to find out." Alric continues with a look of resolve on his face, "And that's why I had to leave. They let me go, and it was hard leaving, but I knew I had to go, and I think they knew that I need to find myself beyond Beywich. I will, and I'll come back and make sure everyone in my Guild is cared for, the same way they cared for me." He stops now, his resolved composure fading into sheepishness as he looks to his companions. "Sorry if I rambled." he says quietly. Personality traits Curiosity: I always want to know how things work and what makes people tick. Ideals Everyone should be free to pursue his or her own livelihood Bonds I owe my guild a great debt for forging me into the person I am today Flaw I am never satisfied with what I have - I always want more Inspired by Wes, here's a little about Landon!: I'm a backend System Engineer for a large Healthcare Software company based out of Kansas City, but I live in Phoenix, AZ. I like to read, write, and game. I play all types of games, from computer, to board, to card and tabletop. I also like to travel and volunteer at conventions. I'll be working at PAX in Seattle in about a week and a half, and I work for Phoenix Comicon from January through the end of May when we actually hold the event. I can't wait to have exciting adventures with all of you.

Nice write-ups everyone! And Alric, you may want to keep your toys away from Flame (see his second personality trait). He WILL accidently break your stuff! Okay, a little about me then. I'm married with two teenage boys. We have our own business and make all kinds of different music on the side, which we sell worldwide on the internet. I play guitar and my wife plays keys and sings. We have many musical friends in St Louis and much of our time is spent playing, writing and listening to music. All of us are avid gamers and we roleplay or play boardgames at least once a week. I'm also a bit of a computer nerd and love to tinker with synthesizers and recording software.

I edited mine to have a more correct background (I mixed some characters I made a bit). As for about me. I'm 27, I'm from Israel, I'm a student for a master's degree in Biology, researching some cool less known parasitic animal called Myxozoa. I love strategy computer games and am addicted to the internet like most people. My previous experience with "role playing" is something called NESing, where we role play countries on a map (it's a forum game on civfanatics) and build its culture, story, history, leaders, characters, religion etc... I LOVE world building and maps.
