Editing pop-out character sheets?

I want to have all my player's sheets up and utilize the GM notes feature built into the sheets. However when I click "edit" (as you can't add notes without editing the sheet) it simply closes the pop-out window and then the in-session character sheet returns for me to edit. This however is contrary to the concept of a "pop-out" sheet. It seems completely counterintuitive and I'm hoping I'm becoming frustrated with what is ultimately user-error and not shoddy design on Roll20's part. Can anyone help me figure out what I need to do to be able to utilize the built in feature of a pop-out character sheet that I can also edit? If you're going to offer a work around, I appreciate the suggestions for sure but please answer the question along with it. Thanks! <3

When you pop out a sheet, it loses some functionality.  There are certain things that only work while the sheet is still actually part of the vtt environment.  I'm not sure if this actually shoddy design or simply a browser limitation when dealing with the vtt and all the underlying web services that make it function.

Things that require drag and drop are a browser limitation.

I believe the popout feature was originally intended just to allow you to use screen space more efficiently, but it does seem to be showing its age. If you click edit, it re-engages (this might be similar to the browser limitation that affects drag and drop? I'm not sure on that), but if the default is to have a sheet popped out, it seems that once you are finished editing, it should pop back out. Fortunately, you can close it and open it again. A hassle, but it is a workaround.

That's a shame. I do wish we could get a standalone desktop app to make more optimized use of multiple monitors and tabs. Thanks for the answers!

A standalone app would likely reduce options, since you would also need to maintain a code base for 2-3 OSs that the current model now supports, plus mobile options. Back at the beginning, they chose to run in a browser, which has been its great strength (super compatible) and great weakness (easily breakable) ever since.
