Players seeing the nameplate of a character on the GM layer

August 25 (2 years ago)

Heya !

We encountered a bug in my game where the players see the nameplate of a character hidden in the GM layer.

See the image below:

The character Chai here is hidden on the GM layer yet my players still see the nameplate.

Obviously, this is not normal...

Can you folks look into it ?

Thanks in advance !

Yup, I'm seeing this too. Almost certainly is related to the new "Hover to show token nameplate and bar overlay" feature. Chrome on a Mac.

Did the bar style also change? I think it has rounder edges? If I'm not crazy and they do indeed *now* have rounded edges, does anyone know if there is a way to go back to the rectangular style? Thanks!

According to my testing this only occurs if "see" on the nameplate is enabled.

Until this bug is resolved, If you turn off the "see" on nameplates your players will not see them.

The bug involves both the nameplate and any visible bars.

If the player happens to have the new "Hover to show token nameplate and bar overlay" checkbox checked, then the token is hidden to them as it should be.

edit: pls pardon the "later" typos in the images

Hey folks, I believe you're experiencing an issue with legacy dynamic lighting. Unfortunately, as we continue to make improvements to the VTT, that legacy code becomes more and more unstable. In April of last year we announced that we can no longer guarantee the stability or compatibility for games using the legacy system as of May 18, 2021.

You can always move to Dynamic Lighting from our legacy system using the Convert Lighting Tool, and my apologies for the disruption to your games!

EDIT: Sorry folks, I was completely wrong here and we've now reproduced and isolated the cause. Working on a fix now!

No, this isnt LDL. It happens even on a page with no lighting. Try it yourself and see!

1. As GM add a token to a map, set either a bar or the nameplate to be visible to players.

2. Move the token to the GM layer.

3. Log in as a Player and look at the map.

Confirmed, this also applies to the bars, if "See" is enabled on the bar it will show up while they are on the GM layer.

I confirm this isn't linked to LDL. We're not even using that and the map we noticed that bug on has lighting disabled.
