Secondly, My idea is to have a map, which I have already created, with various tokens on it representing different characters in the novel we are reading. Students would be able to click on the token and be switched to a personal map from the character with a different path for the students to take. An example would be the new map would show a puzzle for students to solve to get prizes for solving the puzzle. At first, I am looking to use this for short stories. I have a tavern map that students would make their token and explore to find the story tellers. I have have 30 plus characters on the map, but only 5 tell longer stories. The stories are all tied together to create a broader understanding of a topic we are using throughout the course. (Currently, my Grade 11 class has the theme of death. Every short story, Shakespeare play, novel and movie we watch is about death) Finding the common theme is a challenge I set out on day one...Tuesday. The novel we are using has several side stories that take the characters to different areas of the world, so when we get to that part, I wanted the students to find the character on the map and be taken into their "dream" on a different map. I hope this doesn't sound weird or goofy. I teach the kids who are having difficulty engaging in school so finding and keeping their interest is key. On demand writing is based off the "maps" or pictures they would see. Kind of a you are on of four characters, you see this, what would you do thing. Thanks.
