Cannot add tokens or items to my maps

I have been using this site for years and never encountered a problem like this. For the last three days I have been trying to add a new player's token to my map. It uploaded without issue to my library, but when I try to drag and drop it now it will not show up on the map. I have checked all layers and it is just not showing up. I have also tried creating a new map and this led to the discovery that I actually cannot add any items to my map, not just this particular token. What am I suddenly doing wrong?

Hi James! Just to double check: There have been a couple of reports recently of people trying to drag an item from the Sidebar to the VTT by the image (incorrect, used for ordering) instead of by the name (correct). Is this the case, or does that still fail?

I feel like an absolute donkey... I've been here for years! How could I possibly not know there was a difference between clicking the image or clicking the name... derp. Thank you Keith! Problem solved!

I have a feeling something subtle must have changed, since this is the third report in as many weeks. Question, are you dragging from the journal tab or the art library tab?

This must have been a purposeful change. I've just popped open a game and none of the Token Images work to drag the token into the play space. I've reported it as a bug, but it seems intentional.

When pulling from Compendium into the play space, there is a tendency for just the sheet to display without an icon being added to the grid. Pulling from the compendium is a two-part process.  Part 1: it places the character in the journal tab.  Part 2: the part that sometimes fails, is to place the token on the place space.  If part 2 fails you can go back to the journal tab and drag from there to the play space, OR you can try from the compendium again, and since it skips part 1 (it has already been done) it is likely to work the second time around.  Note: the token IS usually on the table from the first time, it will just not be visible until a second copy is dropped and the table state is re-updated.  Note: I am not saying this isn't a bug, it is, just explaining the behavior and workaround.

I'd realized that the original post is not the same issue as what keithcurtis is referring to. I changed my response to reflect the post's actual issue, which seems to come from an intentional change. It's awfully difficult to figure out what are bugs and what are supposed to be features nowadays. It would be much easier to have figured out what the original post was about if the behaviors of the VTT weren't being changed so flippantly.  Thankfully, because of the forums, we were able to figure out the actual issue being asked about. To reiterate, there is a bug which causes assets that are pulled from the Journal (and especially the Compendium) to not show due to what appears to be a technical issue or lag. There is a potentially intentional change that has made the preview image of a token unable to be dragged and dropped into the play space, however, using the token name should still work assuming the above technical issue isn't lurking about.

That's why I asked if it was from the Journal or the Art tab. The journal tab had never (at least not in at least five years) been set to allow you to drag to the VTT from the image. That has always been an ordering handle. This has been the constant advice given and the documented behavior all this time. I asked about the art tab, because I am not 100% positive it has been the art tab behavior. I try to verify before I answer.

I appreciate the follow ups even more then the solution haha! I don't feel so dumb now. I am absolutely confident, in retrospect, that I have pulled plenty of items using the token and not the name. So it's good to know I wasn't imagining it. Thanks folks!
