October 31, 2018 Wednesday 10PM Paladin goes to the Bunker to monitor the emergency bands while Kismet heads to the Zeta Tau Alpha fraternity party. Genji and Revenant go with her, Genji for the booze and Revenant for the chance at free food. When they arrive they see that there is a charge to get into the party: Guys $20, Girls $10, Hot Girls Free. Kismet gets in free but Genji has no money and sneaks in through a window to escape the cover charge. The party has beer, cheap liquor, little hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls, potato chips, and other party foods. In the basement there games, beer pong, billiards, darts, foosball, and the like. Genji goes to the bar while Revenant goes to the food line. Dr. Edgar Cizko, a.k.a. Doctor Psycho is on the makeshift stage tearing it up on his electric guitar putting down an awesome performance. Kismet goes over to talk to his. He takes a break and grabs some orange punch (non-spiked) for some refreshment. He and Kismet (who he calls Kaitlynn). She asks him when is he going to go pro? He replies that he wants to get his license back so he can go back to psychiatry but it is always a good idea to have a back up plan. He suggests that she join him in the music business and give up being a super hero. She laughs and says she has no musical talent but would be willing to be a backup dancer. He accepts but she decides to go talk to her friends. Sherry and Spenser are there having a drink. When Kismet reaches them Sherry sends him to go get her a gin-high. While he is gone she asked Kismet what happened when she left. Kismet told her about the vampires that were trying to burn down the ‘super-secret base’. Sherry was skeptical but Kismet assured her that they were real vampires. Sherry shrugged and remarked, ‘well, it is Halloween after all’. While the girls are talking another goth girl walks up to them and taps Kismet on the shoulder. She says: “My name is Mary Margret Catherine Lucinda Abagail Caruthers, and I want my broom back.” Kismet says that she bought the broom legally and she was keeping it. The girl then drew a circle in the air and said ‘Lupus’. She then quietly left. Dr. Cizko goes to the kitchen for some food surrounded by fans. They ask him why is he selling coffee when he has the talent he does. Cizko rides of the clouds of the accolades and pushes Revenant out of the way and grabs five of the finger sandwiches from the food table. Cizko heads back to the stage. The show continues for another hour without incident. Then Cizko announces that he is about to do a special song. He starts to play: I want you to be my slave! I got you under my spell! You'll never live to tell If you don't serve me well Then you'll go straight to hell You live for my command You'll serve at my demand You're kept like an animal in a cage The victim of my unruly rage Kismet senses a wave of mental power washing over the party as Cizko plays. Concentrating on it she recognizes a mix of the poltergeist Orson’s powers combined with the mental signature of her Uncle’s previous power. While she was coming to understand what was going on one of the fraternity brothers led six barely dressed girls out of a side room and out in front of the stage. The glassy eyed girls seemed quite content to be enslaved by Cizko. Realizing that her uncle was being possessed by the resident phantom used her power to try to help Cizko break free. It didn’t succeed. Cizko stopped playing. The ghost, using Cizko’s body, tells Kismet that he likes having a body again and won’t give it up! He said that he was able to reconnect with Cizko with the powers he once possessed and did not plan to relinquish it. Revenant and Genji rushed to help her. Kismet tried to physically disable Cizko. Cizko, in the voice of Orson, told Kismet that as a ghost he was able to stimulate the pleasure centers of her brain, now with a body he could do so much more for her. She was creeped out, as was Revenant and Genji. Cizko’s restored mental powers prevented Kismet from affecting him overly much but Revenant was able to grab him and hold him still. Genji hacked his way through the crowd using a stun only attack from his sword got to the stage. Being held motionless by Revenant Genji easily knocked Cizko out. When Cizko’s body fell to the floor Kismet and Genji saw Orson’s ghost standing there. He shook his head sadly and faded away. 11PM (shortly after) Kismet started flying toward Post Nuclear. She wanted to tell Lilli about what happened at the Bunker concerning the vampires. While flying she called Post Nuclear and set up a time to see Lilli Thursday night thirty minutes after dusk. Since that was taken care of she decided to fly back to party … but she blacked out and never made it. November 1, 2018 Thursday 00:30 AM Paladin was sitting on monitor duty when he heard the elevator activate. He moves to the side of the elevator to see who gets off. The person was a Asian man, or at least of Asian ancestry, dressed in a blue unitog, with dark blue boots, a wrist rocket launcher on his left hand, and billy club strapped to his right hand. He wore a gun with a green holster. Paladin calmly asked who he was. The intruder was startled but answered he went by Utility, the human swiss army knife. “I solve problems.” Under questioning as to why he was there Utility said he was here to join. He said that he broke in so that when the Brigade came back to the base they would find him. It was his attempt to impress them as part of his application. Paladin sense danger from the young man, not a great deal but definitely something amiss. He gave Utility an application. Utility said he would have his lawyers look it over and he would bring it by tomorrow or the next day. Paladin wanted to know who his lawyers were but Utility said that telling Paladin that would jeopardize his secret ID. If his lawyers were good with the application he would, of course, tell the Brooklyn Brigade everything. Paladin let him leave. Then he does a computer check to see if he can find any information on who Utility is but comes up with nothing. [GM NOTE: Familiarity with Computer Operation was added to the list of Everyman Skills for the Modern Game Setting. Everyone now has Computer Programming of, at least, 8 or less. ] Genji and Revenant arrive shortly after Utility leaves. Paladin tells them about the visitor they just missed. 06:45 AM Kismet wakes up lying naked on a roof. Her hair is matted and mangled, her body is dirty, there is blood on her hands, lips, and chin. She feels last night was the most fulfilling of her life, a night of complete freedom unlike any other she had ever experienced. She feels absolutely GREAT! She uses her teleportation to get home. After taking a showers and getting dressed she finds the broom is already there in her room. She uses her object reading power to locate where her missing 3WA uniform is. She finds the bikini in an alley on the ground. Whatever happened last night shredded it but its self-repair systems fixed it before she located it. Upon finding it she heads for home and starts doing some research as to what the hell happened to her last night. Ultimately she comes to the conclusion that she had become a werewolf. Paladin starts his day by checking out the auto-distress messages. Finding nothing pressing he eats breakfast and has a workout. After a shower he sits down and waits for something horrible to happen. Revenant does very similar things, he works out and then does some tinkering. 11:00AM The construction crew arrives to begin repairs on the base. It will take a couple of days but then it will be as good as new. 12:00 Noon Genji starts his day at the crack of noon. He grabs a shower, gets some food, and then checks on everyone else. Kismet at first thought the state she found herself in this morning was because of the pervy ghost they defeated last night. As she worked through things, realizing she was a werewolf, she decided that Mary Margret Catherine Lucinda Abagail Caruthers was a much more likely suspect. She starts to hunt her down. Beginning with the borough of Brooklyn she does a mind scan for the person she only met once. She finds her! Her mind scan leads her to a older house, five stories tall, with a (small) yard of dead grass around it, with a wrought iron fence surrounding the place. There were two gates in the fence, one for the driveway, the other for foot traffic to the front door. Raining the house with her mind scans the people inside feel it like ‘a goose walking across their graves’. Seeing Kismet flying outside their house someone calls the Brooklyn Brigade for help against the witch who was attacking them. (Kismet is dressed in goth style, she riding a broom, and her mental power was making everyone feel odd. Who wouldn’t think she was a witch?) Paladin confirms that the ‘witch’ was in fact Kismet. He tells her if she needs help to let him know. He then calls the citizen who was worried about the witch and tells them that it is a member of the Brooklyn Brigade and nothing to be concerned about. She just wanted to talk. The female caller suggests to Paladin that Kismet should try ringing the doorbell. Kismet comes to the front door but not before isolating Mary Margret Catherine Lucinda Abagail Caruthers as being on the third floor watching her though a window of frosted glass. The person who answers the door is a girl who resembles Mary Margret Catherine Lucinda Abagail Caruthers but is not her (it is her older sister Melle). She tells Kismet she it not invited but challenges her to come in. Kismet refuses so Melle starts to close the door. Kismet teleports inside. Melle seems satisfied that Kismet isn’t a fell creature since she could come in without being invited. Melle invites Kismet to come into the parlor and wait for Mary Margret Catherine Lucinda Abagail Caruthers. In the parlor her other older sister, Avina, comes in with a teapot. Kismet refuses the outreach of hospitality stating she wanted to talk to Mary Margret Catherine Lucinda Abagail Caruthers. Avina wants to know why and Kismet tells her. Avina says that Mary Margret was not supposed to do that but she seems more amused than angry. Avina says both she (Kismet) and Mary Margret are stubborn and this was going to be fun to watch! Mary Margret arrives in the parlor and Avina excuses herself. Kismet demanded that she remove the curse, Mary Margret refused. She demanded the return of her broom, Kismet refused. The tension increased until Kismet become tired of trying to reason with the girl. Kismet used Mind Control to try to force her to remove the curse. The Mind Control failed! Mary Margret angrily said it didn’t matter anymore anyway she had already started making a new one. Kismet could keep the broom but she would keep the curse along with it. Kismet defended her position saying she bought the broom at a pawn shop. Mary Margret shot back that her sisters stole the broom from her and that she was already planning on her revenge on them. Kismet told her that this was pointless since she was already making a new broom anyway. Mary Margret said she needed the broom last night as it was her last chance to see her grandmother. Kismet was seething so she pushed her Mind Control as hard as she was able and tried to for her again to remove the curse. This time it succeeded. When the counter-spell was complete Mary Margret hissed that the curse was lifted but if Kismet had spilled human blood the counter spell would fail and the curse would be eternal. Snidely Mary Margret wished Kismet well. Kismet left the house but not before she tossed a threat of repercussions should the curse be permanent over her shoulder. Kismet returned to the base and explained everything that happened at the Caruthers house. Kismet once again stated that if she had hurt a human the curse would be permanent, Mary Margret would be a murderer, and she would be her weapon. Kismet also wants someone to come with her to Post Nuclear to talk to Lilli about the vampire situation. Genji knows depending on the type of curse, if it wasn’t lifted, she could turn on a full moon, a full or new moon, or every night after midnight. Revenant helped her with a painstaking task of collecting samples from under her fingernails so the blood of the victim could be tested for type. The Bunker has the equipment to process the sample but no one has the required skills. They decide to ask Doctor McQuark to run the test. Revenant calls McQuark Development. The phone is answered by Lydia Davidson, the receptionist. She tells him to bring the sample out. Just before she hangs up she asks Revenant if he is a new member of the Brigade. He replies that he is. She recommends that he get one of the few remaining doses of the Glove Cleaner vaccine. Elias is working on reproducing the process that creates the vaccine but there is no way to know when the disease might get released again. Revenant does not know what the Glove Cleaner disease but on Paladin’s recommendation he agrees to get it. He takes one of the motorcycles from the motor pool and heads out to the lab. Meanwhile Paladin goes to the Caruthers house in order to explain how much trouble Mary Margret might be in should the curse be permanent. Paladin knocks on the door and it is opened by a thin, pale, handsome woman with pale skin. Paladin asks about the people in the house to the degree that the woman asks him if he worked for the Census bureau? Paladin says he isn’t with the Census Bureau but he is with the Brooklyn Brigade. Despite this the woman frequently refers to him as a Census taker for the rest of the visit. The woman eventually identifies herself as Monia Caruthers. She invites Paladin in the parlor for tea while she calls her daughters; Melle (age 21), Avina (age 19), and Mary Margret Catherine Lucinda Abagail Caruthers (age (almost) 18, Mary Margret for short). Paladin hears the story that Kismet got fragments of, that Melle and Avina stole Mary Margret’s broom. Monia is appalled that they did that especially so close to Halloween. The older girls said it wasn’t there fault, Mary Margret was supposed to find it before it was too late. Monia then asked Mary Margret if she cursed Kismet. She admitted it and took pride in the curse being permanent if Kismet spilled human blood. Monia corrected her, it would complicate things but the curse still could be lifted. Mary Margret said her mother was wrong. Monia sends Mary Margret to her room but sends the older girls to the dungeon to wait for their father coming home. When Paladin and Monia are alone she tells him that she could not remove the curse, it would take a more powerful caster than herself. Luckily that describes her husband Winguric. Paladin says that if Kismet didn’t spill human blood this can be chalked up as a non-event but if it is human blood the authorities will need to become involved. Monia smiled at him and said that the situation would be resolved, eventually. At McQuark Development Lydia takes the sample and gives it to Mick. Mick wants to know what is to be tested for. When he is told just to see if it is human Mick is crestfallen but agrees to do as asked. Meanwhile Lydia gives Revenant the Glove Cleaner vaccine. Revenant asks if there is anything else he should be vaccinated for? Lydia asks if he’d ever had Martial Measles? He said no, and Lydia responded “that’s good”. Thirty minutes later Mick comes back and says that the blood was from a rat, not human. Kismet should be fine!
