Hi Alex! This is related to Exploration Mode, which hides tokens when they are not visible. As things reach the edge of visibility due to available light, Exploration mode correspondingly makes them less visible. This is due to how the layering works. I made an info graphic for this last year to give a visual explanation for the phenomenon: Basically, Exploration Mode is an overlay of the map layer image in grayscale, that is transparent in areas where a token has line of sight. If a token does not have strong sight on an area (i.e. dim light), that EM palyer is translucent, which causes tokens to appear translucent under some circumstances. If this is an issue to roleplay, there are some things you can do to ameliorate it. For example, you could put a very tiny radius of bright light around all PC tokens not currently emitting light. This would not be enough to illuminate their surroundings (thus preserving the rules of visibility) but would allow other players to clearly see their companions at all times. The downside of this is that they could see them even if they were beyond the range of darkvision, but its a tradeoff. Or, you could abandon Exploration Mode altogether and use Light Crumbs , but that has its own disadvantages.
