Never played D&D but I'd like to...

I really love the idea of learning to play this game with some friendly folk online and maybe even make some friends. I looked through the LFG section and all the campaigns I looked at had 30+ players wanting to join. I've never played a real game of D&D so I feel a bit awkward asking to join a game I know nothing about plus I'm new to this website and a bit worried that I'm going to be slow and annoy people who know what they are doing. I'm not even sure if this is an appropriate post to make but … fortune favours the bold and perhaps someone can point a potential player such as myself in the right direction. so; if you're willing to adopt a fledgling player and teach me the ropes I'd be very grateful and if there's a better place for me to ask this favour I'd like to know where that is.  :)

What timezone you in will? And what availability do you have, evenings, weekends, etc?
