Random connection issues in R20 servers.

So I have had the strangest, most inconsistent connection issues with Roll20 that has gradually become more and more frustrating as time has gone on. Most of the time, say 80% of games I'm in, everything will work fine as intended. But 20% of the time, Roll20 will randomly decide to throw a fit and refuse to properly connect me to a server. It'll load a map, then not load the chat or load character sheets, and disconnect me after five minutes. And once it starts doing that, it can hard lock me from properly connecting to a game for hours, and its ruined game sessions for me. The most annoying part is I can't seem to find any root cause for it. It doesn't happen at a specific time. It doesn't happen on specific servers. I can have it work fine one day and be completely useless the next. I've used four different browsers, different internet sources, wi-fi, LAN, relogging roll20 account, resetting my laptop, using a completely different laptop, changing my DNS. No matter what I do, when it decides its not going to work, it will continue not working for any random period between 30 minutes and 3 hours, with nothing I change having any effect on it.  That complete randomness and unresponsiveness to any possible problem solving has been the biggest headache. And its been going on for months now. I usually got over it because it does work fine 80% of the time like I said, but it is getting irritating getting kicked from games over this uncontrollable connection error. And yes, everything besides Roll20 works fine at the same time the connection bug happens, so its isolated to the site or some kind of unique connection that wouldn't be net-wide.

Have you tried using a traceroute program (like Ping Plotter) to see if there is a problem with a hop between yourself and Roll20?
I haven't, but I'll try it next time the issue flares up. Its completely random, so I can't reproduce it at will. As an extra note, the website works fine, its specifically games that have the lack of loading/dc issue.  From what I can tell, it seems like the server is trying to connect to the game server, and then fails half-way since the map will load, the sheets will light up, then the text/roll chat and actual sheets won't load. I find out quickly because when I click my character sheet, it'll bring up charactermancer new character creation automatically with none of the sheet details. And if it did connect properly, the sheet will load normally.  So my only "fix" has been spam refreshing for up to an hour sometimes until the sheet loads correctly.  And yes, just letting it sit for 20 minutes instead to let things "load" doesn't fix it either. Its an issue with the immediate connection at the start of joining a game.  Letting it sit just has the red d/c box stay up permanently.  As an  additional detail, if the game has already loaded properly, it never d/cs. Once it loads right once, it'll stay working fine.  But if I accidentally refresh the game, the issue can start up again.

Based on my experience Roll20's programming seems to "hang" when something fails to connect rather than retrying. This is probably because Roll20 isn't built like other websites, it pushes website coding to extremes.  Other websites will usually retry if they don't connect properly within a certain timeframe.  As a result, if you notice it hanging just hit refresh rather than waiting. If there was a glitch (such as with your internet connection, maybe some packet loss) then refreshing may give it a 'clean connection'.
