Edit: I will add a bit more lore details sometime within the next 6 hours -\ Continent Map : Thresh'ire "Back-Cover" Blurb: Times of crisis naturality generate strife. With tensions high those who have power tighten their grip, and those without strive to attain it. The year is 948, and the Scourge, a plague that rather than being cured by magic festers in its presence, has set upon Thresh'ire like a heavy fog, suffocating those who lack the resources to keep the sickness at bay. But even in these times of suffering, the world continues on. Wars still rage, dragons still sleep amidst their hoards, and those who seek to reshape a battered world into their image take steps to achieve their vision. I know that is fairly vague, but its more meant as a way of expressing the general tone / vibe of the setting. I intend to the main quests to be integrated into your character backstories. Each PC will have their own villains that integrate to varying degrees into the BBEG's plots. When building your PC consider grounding them within the setting itself (Plus it makes my life a little easier). Locations to pull lore from: Ferrali: An imperialistic nation located on the boarder of the Da'ji and Silent Wastes. This is the capital of the Ferralian Empire, a powerhouse of the south with colonies spread across the region and across the desert. This city is known for its emphasis of study of arcane arts at the Rosen Sole Academy, as well as the city is a place of immensely powerful military might. The Governmental structure is a triumvirate, its leaders each embody a core element of their society's values - Commander Thaddeus Ashenstone, Font of Might (Leads military) - Archmagnus Verissimus Lafayette, Font of Wisdom (Headmaster of the Rosen Sole) - Chancellor Octavia Dela-Tour, Font of Grace (Most influential of the three, handles public and private affairs and often chooses exceptional students from the Rosen Sole to be her personal understudies) Dueskk: A city within the northern point of the Singe. This is one of the older and more mysterious cities on the continent. The inhabitance of this city favor the worship of the Raven Queen, and the city itself reflects this. The people dress predominantly in deep blacks and grays with accents of yellow, gold, and silver, with jewelry to match. The architecture of this city is angular, favoring verticality rather than widening the bases of structures. Lastly, this city sits on sacred ground, the location in which she usurped the previous god of the dead. As a result of the rippling impacts of that event, every new moon the city slips into the Shadowfell in an event known simply as the Crossing. Lapir: A mining colony of Ferrari that fought and won its independence from the Empire. A small but proud nation, Lapir focuses less on the arcane or the divine and more on craftsmanship of powerful tools, weapons, and armor as the city sits atop the deepest and richest mines of mithril on the continent. Having left the Empire by force, they are not on good terms with Ferrali, who regularly sparks wars with the intention of reclaiming this run-away colony for their own material gains. Many of the people from this city will only ever know war, as those born within the cities walls are required to help ensure they remain standing. Lapir is located in the East Steel-Slate mountains. Stimulum: A rough and tumble northern and coastal dig turned chempunk city. The inhabitance of this dig are tough as they come, favoring body modification with the express goal of making themselves as strong as possible. This has lead to the development of both magical and chemical enhancements and body replacements that allow for remarkable feats. The city itself mines a material coveted by mages called Arc Glass, a natural crystal capable of storing electrical energy which is often used as a power source for experiments and prosthetics. Stimulum is the place people tend to go when they want to start over, or just want to push themselves beyond their physical limits in the fighting pits (which are used in place of a judicial system) Thenalla: A cold and miserable trading city toward the northern end of the Trost Valley. This city made a name for itself due to the Royal Family's development of black powder, which has its uses in demolition and celebration. However, there are always those who seek to push beyond what they should, resulting in the invention of rudimentary and highly unstable cannons and firearms which have begun to make their way into circulation. The Thenallian Royal family is fairly reclusive, especially in recent months following the assassination of their eldest son. In an attempt to enact revenge, they formed a trade deal with Ferrali, manpower in exchange for a batch of flintlocks and cannons which will likely be used to further oppress colonies. Valtarius: the "Vegas" of the setting. A smaller city tucked between the Singe and the Trost Valley. Valtarius made a name for itself through it's wine, as the volcanic soil allows the grapes to grow especially well. This is a place for those who enjoy the finer things in life. The city is run by the absent-minded Governor, Archivist Ashwell, a wizard who prefers to spend his time and energy on his own projects rather than managing stately affairs. He leaves much of the city's politics to be handled by the denizens themselves, resulting in a seeder side of the city. Terrlog: the keystone city along the east coast of the Trost Valley. Terrlog has dubbed itself "The City of Wonders," and for good reason. Housing the Hearthstone Academy of Arcane Talents, a school devoted to uncovering the ancient secrets of times long forgotten and developing new forms of arcane implements to improve the quality of life for the people. Terrlog's jurisdiction covers the vast majority of the middle and southern Trost Valley, sending the Brass Guard to the local towns as law enforcement. However, in recent years, the Brass Guard has been stretched very thin, leaving the city vulnerable. As a result, the City has elected to allow travelers who pass through and take up residence to partake in a reserve force known as the Vanguard which provides perks, namely being able to sidestep the fees associated with openly carrying weapons.
