Frequent Disconnects and Screen update delays

Hello. My roommate and I have been experiencing frequent delays and dropouts when in a roll 20 game. We are on the same network with wired connections to our computers. We just noticed while troubleshooting that in the "As" field in chat, there are two instances of our character name. if we experience a delay in seeing someone's roll, we can switch to the other version of our name in the "As" chat field, and we then see updated information. My question is, why is this happening in the first place and can it be resolved so we don't have to worry about it?
Note: We have tried both Chrome and Firefox. Same issue/results
