If I had my preferences I would love to play in a Star Trek campaign. Using a modified version of Prime Directive but in the Next Generation era. Other than that, some hard-core SciFi above that of Traveller but just below a Space Opera.
The Traveller system while interesting is pretty bland in my opinion. At least with Star Trek and Star Wars there is a lot of source material available. Even Battletech has a huge amount of fluff and background information. For Battletech, it would be a situation of ignoring the mechs themselves. A game of people on the ground. Making a living in various way. For Star Trek, avoid being active duty Star Fleet. Maybe being an intelligence officer would work but avoid being bridge crew. Star Wars, the ships are small so crew requirements are minimized. Plus it has a lot of fluff available and ships plans are available easily.
My dance card is pretty full right now, but I have a cyberpunk/space setting I'm thinking about running.
There are unofficial rules that converted Star Wars into Gurps. It's up to the 4th edition but I don't think the guy doing it has made any updates recently.
sorry for not responding to this post for a while, my laptop died
Been following this for a while. Not running gurps atm, but will be trying out a hard sci-fi setting. System is called What Old is New (WOIN) Only a few sessions. If you'd like to see more info you can check out the listing: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/377984/woin-somerset-landing The system itself is under OGL so you can read the gist of it here: http://www.woinrpg.com/about-whats-old-is-new Regarding ST and SW...if I were to run those, it would probably be Mophid 2d20 for ST and WEG d6 / FFG (and maybe d20) for SW.

Shadowrun is actually a bit more mellow with the various non-lethal options (3E and older, never did get into 4E+) I'd consider 2020 as well, but again very crunchy. Expanse RPG is less hardcore than the books/show. What you have in mind?
Just out here taking a shot at saying I'd love to play
