Tomb of Annihilation: Hex Reveal Advice

System: 5e Module: Roll20 Tomb of Annihilation Addon: DMsGuild, ToA Companion So my players have gotten to chapter 2 and are now exploring the jungle. After reading through some posts on Reddit I have modified the travel they are capable of doing in 1 day (roughly doubled it so they can explore more). I am looking on some advice on when to, and how to, reveal the unexplored hex's on the players map. - One of my players asked if they are able to see each of the hex's that are adjacent to the hex? - If they are lost do I reveal the hex or not? and if not, wouldn't that automatically tell them that they are lost and should backtrack?
As someone who has run the module: - Drop the "Getting Lost" mechanic as written entirely. Have getting lost trigger an encounter, rather than moving to a mysterious hex on the map. Saves headaches all around. - No, you only reveal the Hex they are on, not the surrounding Hexes. They can only reveal a hex if: a) They go there themselves, b) a creature they control goes there, such as a familiar or b) if they receive some kind of map
I did a bit of double handling with this - I only revealed the hexes they had been in when they made their way to a location without getting lost on the way. So I would keep the hexes hidden. Jungle, jungle, jungle ("hang on, shouldn't there be a river somewhere around here"), jungle, jungle, clearing - you see that you have gone totally off track. The players drew on the hexes as they went. I also revealed a lot when they got to that plateau as they could see way down the valley from there. However, even when they had the revealed map, it was still easy to get lost in the jungle. It worked well for us, but wouldn't for everyone. At one stage the characters got lost in the jungle for TWO WEEKS until they found a spot where they could realign themselves.
I had two tokens. One that could be controlled by the players that showed where they thought they were. One was on the GM layer for me and showed where they actually were.
