I grew up playing 2e and 3e DnD. For the last year, I have been playing on Roll 20. I don't do in-person because I have kids and don't have the time to get out and play face-to-face. I like the 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 approach you laid out. I the best part of playing DnD is getting a group of good people to explore and develop a great story together. When I build my character, I think about what kind of role the group needs, and I build it to be the best at the job. Then, I build a personality with a backstory to guide their decisions in the game. I typically play a fighter, Barb, or Pally but I can play anything. Let me know if you want to talk about your game.
