Hi All, A couple of years ago I tried my first game of DnD and it crashed and burned.  Hard.  I've since recovered (Still have mild PTSD though) and am trying to give it another go.  If anyone is looking for an inexperienced player looking to give it a shot, hit me up!  I have read the PHB, and I have a good understanding of the rules.  However, I am inexperienced and might need a little hand holding as I get the hang of putting theory into practice. Things that most interest me: 1) Combat, overcoming challenges, solving problems.  I'm a theory crafter and tactician, I like facing difficult situations and figuring out a solution 2) High Fantasy settings:  Swords and dragons and knights and kings! Things I am less excited about, but willing to try 1)  Super heavy RP, especially right out of the gate.  I'm shy and an introvert, and very task oriented.  If you give me a quest hook, say "Bandits are harassing the village"  I'm going to dive right in to try and find the hideout and bring the knaves to justice.  If you say "you are all sitting around a tavern chatting" I'm going to have a hard time engaging.  As I get comfortable it will get easier, but I'm likely never going to want to sit and roleplay chat for hours and hours. 2) Silly/goofy settings or campaigns that don't take themselves seriously.  I'm looking for Tolkien, not Terry Pratchett. Things that might be problems 1)  I'm new, and I haven't had a good experience in the past.  I don't know the etiquette and conventions, I've done a fair bit of research, but research =/= experience. 2) I'm a bit of a power gamer.  A lot of the fun for me comes from figuring out how to squeeze every last bit of performance out of a build, and then putting it to the test.  I have no problem at all if other players don't want to optimize and minmax, as long as there is no objection to me doing so. 3) I have a pretty good understanding of the rules.  I understand that the DMs word is final, but I will feel like the rug has been pulled out from under me if things I try and do based on the rules get blocked for non-rule or incorrect rule reasons. On the tech side of things, I am happy to use any VOIP system and/or virtual tabletop, internet access/mic are not a problem.  I do not have a webcam, but if I like the group and end up running with you long term I can get one if needed.  I will consistently be present and on time, and when IRL gets in the way I will let the group know as far in advance as I can
