Hello, i don't know exactly what to say i'm looking for because i'm kind of new to this whole thing, what i do know is that i'm primarily looking for text-based and play by post stuff, though voice isn't wholly out of the question it's a bit harder to work with for me.
My attraction to D&D recently comes from my complete and total obsession with Baldur's Gate 3, i've had an interest in playing D&D before that but that's what really kicked off my desire to just play *something* with *someone*, and currently lacking the physical means to do so. I'm open to Pathfinder too but i'm not as familiar with it.
I'm interested in both combat and roleplaying aspects of D&D, i've already got character concepts in mind and just need to know what ruleset i'm working with before i actually get to making them. I love lore, and going into deeper and deeper into a character's story, while also getting to actually use those character's skills in a game with a win/lose state. Basically i just really like everything about RPG's. Again, i don't know how much of that will transfer to a love of D&D or tabletop games but i'm looking to try pretty much anything, i have thought about playing solo before for this very reason, but i do think having atleast one other person to play with is doable.
I suppose 5E is what i'm looking to start with, although i'm unaware of most of the differences between editions and even other games for that matter. I just think 5E sounds like the easiest to understand, with popularity and all. I'm completely okay with doing basically anything a DM wants to do in regards to the campaign and homebrew and all that, since i don't really have any field of reference to know what i do and don't enjoy yet.
I do have some preferences in regards to character creation and what i want to play, i have a very simple way of choosing from my most desired classes. If nobody else in the party is playing a bard, i will play a bard. If bard is taken, i'll go for paladin, if paladin is taken, it'll be barbarian or monk.
I'm not sure about homebrew but i've also shown some interest in playing the Blood Hunter class, from Crit Role, i believe this is known as "partnered content" so it might be a bit of a gray area, so i can understand why some might not want it.
The races i'd like to play with, obviously these depend on classes chosen, would be Githyanki, Duerger, Drow, Aasimar, Bugbear, Hobgoblin, Firbolg, Sea Elf, or Yuan-Ti, the first 3 are my biggest desires.
The biggest lore/story conflict i can think is that i've toyed with the idea of playing a character, likely a paladin, who's either evil or good while worshipping an evil or unconventional deity. IE: Bhaal, Bane, Shar, Loviatar, Umberlee, or Lolth/Vlaakith while not being a drow/githyanki, it's an interesting concept but one i can understand not wanting to include. In general i'd love to try playing an evil character someday.
So that's about it, anybody who's interested in any of this feel free to reply, especially if you have any questions I'm looking for basically anything D&D at this point. Regardless, i hope you havs a good day, thank you for reading.
