Cannot get explorer mode to work on world map with party token

Hey guys, I was trying to set up a world map of Barovia today with dynamic lighting and explorer mode. The idea was to have one token that represents the party with about 1mi of view distance and explorer mode. I've spent a great deal of time learning roll20 and have used dynamic lighting and explorer mode successfully on other maps (dungeons only - though I'm not sure why this would make any difference). I checked all the usual settings on the token and map to ensure they were the same as the other maps and tokens I used dynamic lighting for. I made sure to reset the permanent darkness too . For whatever reason I cannot get it to work. Whenever I enter player preview mode with the token there's the bright light of 1mi emitted around them but the rest of the map is visible in dim light.  I have even tried using the party token in the dungeon map and explorer mode works perfectly fine.  It makes no sense why it wouldn't work and I've checked the various settings at least 10 times now. Any help is greatly appreciated. edit: I saw a suggestion to try viewing it from a dummy account which I will try but I don't understand how it would be any different.

The token sight preview is more for checking line of sight. It is not intended to be a full dynamic lighting player experience simulator. There are some things the GM will always be able to see that players cannot (such as the GM layer). A  Dummy Account  is the acid test for a DL setup.
Thanks man, I was reading some of your posts yesterday and got a lot of good info from them. I figured out how the lighting works on the world map and it's totally different than dynamic lighting. It's basically up to me to carve out little pieces of what my players are allowed to see.
