Game Parameters: System: Dungeon Crawl Classics (DCC) Adventure: "The Portal Under the Stars" (0-level character funnel) Schedule: Wednesdays, 6pm - 10pm Mountain Time #Sessions: 2 (character creation will be "at the table" during the first session and take about an hour) #Players: 5 (maximum) New players (to DCC) are welcome as rules will be taught but experience with d20-based RPGs (like D&D) is very helpful. Adventure Hook: Peasants wearing little or no armor and wielding crude weapons like torches and pitchforks have formed into a desperate mob in pursuit of riches promised by a local Astrologer. The curmudgeonly old man under a crumpled, pointy hat offered to pay a GOLD(!) coin for each "Star Gem" that you recover beyond a mysterious portal that only opens when the stars are right. "Tonight is the night!," he loudly proclaims, and your hungry, ragged mob shambles up the barren hill before halting at a bizarre sight between two ancient menhirs: a stone-paved hallway leading into an unknowable darkness. . . Game Notes: Each player has FOUR characters?! That's insane! You are correct, it is insane, but the idea is that, at least, one of your characters will survive the ordeal and continue their newfound career as a 1st level adventurer. Your shiny new adventurer then refuses to return to his sleepy little village and hits the road with other like-minded thrill-seekers to explore the world. I will be posting the next adventure, "Doom of the Savage Kings," soon and your adventurer is invited. Only one survivor will be advanced to 1st level but you can bring along another 0-level character too; either another survivor or a "fresh" character. Note to experienced DCC players: This is an introductory game that leads to a LOW Gonzo campaign based around the OD&D classic: "The Temple of Elemental Evil." There are significant House Rules that introduce some modern concepts and mechanics that D&D 5e players may recognize plus my attempts at resolving some of the issues, rules gaps and exploits (Spellburn and Luck, in particular) in DCC RAW while still preserving its "feel." If you are expecting a HIGH Gonzo campaign with machinegun-wielding T.Rexes, time-travelling sorcerers wearing handknit scarves or AI-controlled orbital death lasers then this is NOT the right campaign for you, sorry.
