One of my fellow gamers and I have started making a new mythology to use in a campaign setting, and we've decided to start from scratch. We're making an entirely new system for the gods, new gods themselves, and our own (characteristically strange) legends for each of them. To help us organize everything, we've decided to use Roll20 to hold all of the legends and display the gods, similar to the character map I mentioned in an earlier post. My question to you, fellow Roll20 denizens, is: (if you're a DM) Have you tried making a pantheon from scratch? What was it like? Do you enjoy DMing/playing in campaigns where the mythological structure is unique to the world? Here's our diagram so far: http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/6671/pantheon1.jpg And you can find more details about this on my latest blog post here: http://kartoukosa.blogspot.com
I have not made a complete mythology from scatch, but a fun thought I had was if you and your fellow gamer come up with a complete 'story' for the gods (their origins up to modern time) and then take several of the key points and delete them - as if to mimic the idea that details in the great story were lost as the "truth" was passed down through generations. Could be fun :)
