How do I send text from an handout or external source to Roll20 Chat

December 06 (1 year ago)

I know it can be done and if someone could point me to it as my searches have uncovered lots of cool stuff but not what I am looking for. What I am trying to do is from an external document or roll20 handout be able to send text to ROll20 Chat (Discord would be ideal but happy with roll20). I seen some modules that you can purchase have buttons you click on to send to VTT which sends it to chat. So if my handout (or external source) has a description of say "You see a dog sitting in the corner glaring at you." Being able with a quick click to send that (You see a dog sitting in the corner glaring at you.) to roll20 chat or a Discord Channel. I did find all the chat options like /desc for description in roll 20 chat.

You can do from a handout. Doing from an external source would require a browser extension and is not a supported method, so there isn't any documentation.

For handouts sending to chat, you want journal command buttons.

Got i t thanks Scott the other link went to another description of the Journal. Much appreciated. And what i was hoping for when I said external source was when I buy a book for Chaosium for example I get a PDF. I was hoping to be able to send text from that PDF or from a conversion to word. Ideally I could buy a VTT copy, a hard paper copy, and a PDF copy of something but no one does that.
