The Podcast

The podcast is really coming together nicely. I'm really taking my time turning it into a production and not just a straight copy/paste. I have an audio and video editing background - so what I'm doing with Adobe Premiere is editing for time, this means I'm going in and removing all of our "ums" "uhhs" and long pauses, as well as times of confusion so that we sound efficient, eloquent, and the viewer's get right into the good stuff. This is also why it's taking a little longer. So I'm wondering. I was going to break up each session into two ~90 min. youtube episodes. But now I'm thinking I might break each session into ~4 ~45 min episodes or ~6 ~30 min episodes or even ~12 ~15 min episodes. What do you guys think would be the best received by the public through the Youtube form of media?
~30 minute segments are probably the best. You want the segments to be short as possible for easy download, but you also want the segments to be long enough so that something actually gets resolved. Also, most Youtube Video->mp3 converters generally have a 30minute cap.
As of today that's actually what I've been leaning towards. I'm about 3/4 of the way through the first 30 minute segment and OMG you guys are gonna love it. It's a great way to recap too. Can't wait.
Like Tam said, 30 minutes max, and as long as you put them in a playlist to play back-to-back, everyone should be happy.
Ok I will figure out how to do the playlist. I'm obviously going to share it to the /r/dnd and /r/dndnext subreddits. Ill send out an email to you all when each episode is live, containing a link to the reddit post, so that you can upvote it :) this will help it be seen and hopefully catch on. But where else would it make sense to share it?
Maybe on the Wizards official 5e forums, as long as it doesn't violate their advertising rules? I'm really excited to see how it turned out, there's a few people I could show it to that are excited too
I know it's been said, but yeah 30 minute segments are the best break. Then just label each one as either Session 1 part x or so, or label each per episode. I only recommend this last bit cause otherwise, we'll have 1 episode out of every 6 or so that has an introduction, and the others won't. Might be a bit confusing for the listener. Just a suggestion though.
I am planning on doing each segment as Episode 1A, 1B, 1C, etc... and then 2A, 2B, you get the picture. I should have 1A live on Youtube by tomorrow night.
Where can we find it? Series name or link?
I'll share it when it's completed. My computer (a hardy, 2-year old gaming laptop) has actually been giving me lots of hiccups and problems these past 2 weeks. I'm backing up files to the cloud and then going to reinstall windows I think. I'm thinking I'll share the 18 minutes I have completed with you guys in a private link to show you what I've been working on; the computer's problems however are holding me up from getting this done in the timeframe I had planned.
Link to test of 1A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yffciNsGdqQ&featur... ( this is just a test and it's TOTALLY not complete yet) :) Not sure why it's coming out so fuzzy! In Adobe Premiere it is in clear, HD. So it's an export setting I'm sure. Going to work on it. It's a process - and my current computer issues (the fact that it's running strangely slow) doesn't help. After I get all the bugs worked out I plan to have it be smooth releases of an episode a week, with clear video and quick pacing. (1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E, 2A, 2B, 2C, and so on) At least here you can get a taste of the audio and the pacing of how I've broken it up and added some elements.
the video is set to private
Hmm ok, I thought that the link was the password, so to speak. I'll fix it in the morning, Thanks
OK link should be public: http://youtu.be/yffciNsGdqQ Sidenote I think I figured out how to increase the image quality, so I'll replace this one with that one tonight after it finishes exporting. So for this one just listen to the audio and ignore the shitty video (it was just a change in settings I applied). Then I should have 1A (this one) completed soon. And session 2 is Sunday!

I think this sounds good and it will get better as we all get more experienced together. If its not too much work, I would recommend you (DM Rob) output a version that doesn't have all the 'ums' and whatnot removed, if only as an mp3 file. One of the best tips I got in public speaking class was to record yourself talking so that you can hear how often you use those sorts of useless words and in doing so, you would be motivated to use them less. We all would probably benefit from hearing it that way. Finally, we should all be conscious of what we are doing on mic. There was a bit of background noise, it may have been me at the beginning, but if we (mostly the players) aren't talking, we should try to be muted or at least quiet. Overall, it was pretty good for our first try.
I thought of doing that, as I too learned about ums and uhs in public speaking - but this isn't a public speaking class and so I don't want to preach. As long as everyone is aware that every um you speak takes me 5 more seconds of editing and that means longer gaps between podcast releases. As long as the podcast makes all of you happy that's a success, anyone else who enjoys it is a bonus. Also, to avoid background noise we could look into push-to-talk features (does Google Hangouts allow this?) If not I think team speak could be our next best bet. It requires installation but it's made for this exact purpose.
Good news! I got the quality to improve dramatically. It will look great. at this point it looks like I might as well just finish episode 1A before uploading because I'm so close to finishing it.
I would love to look into teamspeak. To be honest, hangouts was a bit of a headache to connect to.
Marco G. said: I would love to look into teamspeak. To be honest, hangouts was a bit of a headache to connect to. Marco, I will look into setting it up and then make a post about it before Sunday. So everyone, look out for it.

Grey oozes will disintegrate your armor and weapons. The woman and child, both Half-Dead members, are saved and the party fortifies itself in the tunnel chamber to rest while the black dragonborn collects the slain animated suit of armor. Orryn empties Vetari's vial of ink and fills it with the acid that flows under the stairs. Marit's tame Giant bat flutters in the darkness above the chandelier. And more!

Update to this, I felt like there was more traffic to the youtube page and not my site, so I took off the podcast part of my site. Now it is strictly on the youtube channel but I'm also making all .mp3s available for download from my google drive.
Session 7 Part 3 is live --- the battle with Rouzha Nai'lo! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NO-bpnxEwPo&list=PLowhuJXUfma31cJRPK4myBCW2lsB_vJ24&index=1

Around the 5 minute mark, Vetari rolls a 20 on a d20, then 2 10s on 2d10. Jump to about 20 minutes to see Belanor roll a 17, 19, then a 20 all in one turn. What was with your rolls that day?!
I sacrificed a moose to the Dice God that morning.
