Campaign Start
The feeling of camaraderie after repelling the Walian invasion is starting to fade after the years have passed, and tensions between the various factions of the region have been getting a little frayed as of late. No one knows what the source of the tension is, but it’s starting to reach a boiling point and it’s only a matter of time until something snaps.
The campaign starts in the small logging town of Beddington during the spring equinox festival. People have come from all over the region to take part in and observe the festivities. Lumberjack competitions in sawing, climbing, log rolling, axe throwing, and all kinds of other activities related to the harvesting of the bounty of the region. The biggest prize, however, goes to the log pulling competition. It’s going to be a party! What could possibly happen that would put a damper on the day?
Campaign theme/premise
The campaign will start in a small town, dealing the the immediate problems of that small town and then branch out to the larger environment as the PC’s chase down the ultimate source of the problems. The plan is to have the characters and their backstories drive the specifics of the campaign.
The campaign is planned to be a mix of all three pillars of play (social, exploration, and combat), with the time spent doing each getting dictated by the actions of the PC’s. The idea is for everyone to have fun, so we’ll spend more time doing the parts that the players want to do.
Campaign Duration/Frequency of Sessions
The campaign will start at level 1, and will continue until we are able to reach a satisfactory conclusion. If that means we get to level 5, 8, 15, or 20, that’s okay.
Sessions will be weekly at the designated day/time for approximately 3 hours. We’ll handle holidays/vacations/etc. as a group when it comes up. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to run a session if half the party is gone for real life stuff.
Just like with any campaign, there will probably be some loose threads (because you can never tie them all up), but the plan is for it to have an organic finishing point that provides a satisfying ending.
Campaign Environment
Thabreus is a homebrew world of my own creation. Think Terry Pratchett meets Forgotten Realms level of fantasy. The pantheon is wide open because the gods of Thabreus are powered by belief. If you believe in a deity, it will exist (even if it is very weak because you’re the only one who believes in them). It is a living world, which means your actions (or inaction) have consequences. NPC's keep moving even if you aren't interacting with them.
The campaign will take place in the Nardraz region, a tropical rainforest on the equator filled with a bunch of independent towns, settlements, cities, culture, etc. The major city in the area is extremely metropolitan, kind of like if New York City were sitting at the mouth of the Amazon river. This means that all kinds of races show up and are available for PC’s to choose from. Payment Payment is $15/player/session, Tuesdays 9 AM - 12 PM (US central time).
