D&D 5th edition: "Essentials kit" - really essential?

I'm considering buying D&D 5th ed on Roll20, but am wondering whether I should just buy the core rule books separately, or the DM bundle which includes something called "Essentials kit"? https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/bundle/4386/essentials-kit-deluxe-edition Is this really essential, or should I just save me those about $ 10 and just buy PHB, DMG and MM as stand-alone compendiums instead?

Hi Frank, The Essentials Kit is a "starter rules set". If you are going to buy the core books separately I wouldn't buy the Essentials Kit as everything in EK is in the other books. The exception to this is the adventure Dragons of Icespire Peak, which is only available in the EK. So if you want the adventure you will have to buy the EK.
Great, thanks. :-)
