The Jumpgate Beta for Pro Users Has Arrived!

If you're trying to contact one of the Roll20 team and they're not responding, try sending a help request and mention the exact person that you're trying to contact. It's possible that your DMs aren't going through.  Tranok said: I love being told to send someone a dm and then being ignored.
MadCoder said: I support changes to the GURPS 4E and it's using legacy css. Jumpgate appears to change the load order of style sheets which is causing layout issues. If it's effecting the GURPS 4E there's a good chance it's effecting other character sheets. Here's one example, which was difficult to figure out.  Non-jumpgate legacy Jumpgate legacy <input type="checkbox" name="attr_familiarities_show" value="1"> css rules order of precedence ``` /* ... misc rules */ /* GURPS 4E rule */ .charsheet .sheet-toggle-button input { display: none; } /* ... misc rules */ /* Role20 rule */ label input[type=checkbox] { display: inline-block; } ``` NOTE: The Role20 rule is not implemented.  <input type="checkbox" name="attr_familiarities_show" value="1"> css rules order of precedence ``` /* ... misc rules */ /* Role20 rule */ label input[type=checkbox] { display: inline-block;} /* ... misc rules */ /* GURPS 4E rule */ .charsheet .sheet-toggle-button input { display: none; } ``` NOTE: The GURPS 4E rule is not implemented.  I don't know what method we can use to address fixing this. The Custom Sheet Sandbox doesn't have a jumpgate option, but if it did that would require maintaining two character sheets. I could create a branch just for jumpgate and keep it up to date with my changes and try to resolve merge errors while I maintain the non-jumpgate version. But right now, I don't have a way to fix css issues on jumpgate. PS - Is it possible to add code styling blocks to the RTE? I passed this along to the team so we can take a look.
Tranok said: I love being told to send someone a dm and then being ignored. Hey there -- this is my bad, I've been out of the office the past few days and haven't been keeping up with forum posts/DMs. I will respond now.

Hey everyone! We had a few updates go out at the end of last week that I hadn't had time to post on there yet: Dashed line rendering should be working now in Jumpgate games, so you should be able to tell what barriers are transparent on the DL layer. Fixed some drawing bugs that were showing flickering and artifacts in certain shapes. Updated various icons throughout the interface to be correct (e.g. in the right-click menu and elsewhere) We rolled out a change to opt everyone in our new image delivery service -- this should result in faster image load times throughout the VTT. Thanks!

Hi, The Poster Map of the Continent of Ansalon doesn't sharpen the names of the towns, and cities when zooming in to any level. It doesn't sharpen like the non Jumpgate version of the game does. Even after waiting for about 10 mins or so. I tried it in both Chrome, and Microsoft browsers and I tried it with a direct Jumpgate created game and a game converted to Jumpgate. Other maps in that module for Jumpgate zoom just a nicely as the Non Jumpgate versions. I t's an important map for the game as it contains all the information about the locations in the world of Krynn. A DM without this map may struggle to run their game

This sometimes happens with large maps even in the non-Jumpgate version. When a map is uploaded, Roll20 processes multiple versions for different zoom levels. Sometimes the zoomed out, low-resolution map is shown instead of the high resolution map, and the change to the high-resolution version times out. You can try hitting Ctrl+F5 to reset the browser, or logging out and coming back later. Either of those may fix the situation which might not be particular to Jumpgate (even if it would be great if Jumpgate avoids the problem entirely). I just started testing Jumpgate. I converted a copy of my current campaign.  We are in the middle of a huge battle.  I am having an issue with the text on the icons. I find the names of the icons to be low res and boxy and the numbers to be too small to read.  Here is what my current campaign looks like in Jumpgate.  Most of the text is illegible. Here is what my current campaign looks like in the previous system. I can read everything easily and clearly.  I have been in my current campaign for 3 years. I need to be able to convert it to the new system to be able to use the new system. So far, I can't read any of the text in the new system.  Now, I do think when I look closely at both screen shots, that the images in the Jumpgate screen shot are slightly sharper and that the shadows look smoother. (This is a night battle). I am on a Mac and have tested this in all 3 browsers and they all have the same issue, so it is not a browser issue.  Is anyone else having issues with the font rendering?  To me, this looks like it is being raster image processed at a low resolution before being shown on the screen rather than a font that is a being rendered by the video card.

Hi Wyrmwood! I think we are talking at cross purposes and something is getting lost. Jumpgate has nothing to do with Discord. Can you explain exactly what you are looking for? In case this helps: There are currently two different features being developed: Jumpgate : a rewrite of the Roll20 engine. Any Pro user can create a new game or copy one into Jumpgate at game creation time. This thread is the main source of public feedback. More info on page one of this thread. Roll20 on Discord : This is an announced feature not yet available for public testing. When available, invitations will be sent out to a testing Discord server, that has a Roll20 app installed. During the test phase it will only be available on that server. That has its own thread here , and more info here .

I can now happily report that whatever you did recently has massively improved the performance in Very Large Map Sizes (over 100x100 tiles) with Dynamic Fog of War on, and I no longer have the "Canvas Crashes to Black Screen" issue while exploring the map in the aforementioned Mad Mage maps! I can now attempt to test with an actual group without fear of ruining the entire game for everyone.

I need to ask. With jumpgate a new designe of the 5e character sheet is introduced. Is this available in the jumpgate Beta? If so, how do i change the standrad roll20 5e sheets to the new designe? And as i understand there is a tool on the way to convert old sheets to the new designe. But I wnat to know how i can get the new designe available for new characters.

If this sheet becomes available and you want to switch, copy your game beforehand and then go to Game Settings and change the sheet there. Also this has NOTHING to do with Jumpgate!

TheMarkus1204 said: Riley, might it be possible that the Bullseye Button does NOT set the Zoom "back" to 100% but instead just centers the map at the Zoom level you are currently? The button is nice to have, but the fact it zooms in makes it not that practical for me... Yes I think we'll change this so that you use a modifier key (like Shift) when using the button to do the 100% Zoom reset, and just clicking the button normally just re-centers the map. Adding a ticket for this now.
Bill (Do Not Kill) said: Ari M. said: So, I just migrated a campaign over to Jumpgate this evening, and I'm seeing several problems just trying to get things set up. 1) The size of the map page and the size of the map image don't correspond, even though they're both set to the exact same dimensions. The map hangs way off the edge of the page/hex grid on the right, while parts of the blank page are visible protruding from beneath the map image on the bottom. I've triple-checked the dimensions, and they match. No idea what's going on here. I'm uploading a screen grab so you can see what I'm talking about. (I recognize the above is an exceedingly large map, but it worked fine prior to the Jumpgate migration, and the system is doing the same thing to me on some smaller maps.) 2) Token tool tips aren't showing up on hovering over the icon when I'm signed in as a player. 3) Several characters randomly jumped from the sub-folders they were in back to the main journal page. 4) Some pieces of art have changed tone/darkness in the changeover. Just to amplify on and provide more data on the map problem that Ari M. reported on last week.  I took some screenshots from the original vs. the ported campaign.  The original map: and the original page settings vs. the same map page ported into Jumpgate (note that I intentionally left the "Apply Dominant Color" box unchecked to make it clear where the background map object actually ends).: The fun part is that the reported size of the background map object (as reported by the Advanced/Set Dimensions dialog) is identical with the page size (3520X2112) in both the original and Jumpgated campaigns.  One potential clue might also be gleaned from the colored circles, which only appear on the GM layer (they mark territories which the players are not intended to be aware of).  It is interesting to note that they, too, seem to maintain the same scaling relationship with the background map object between the two campaign objects.  Also of note is that the map scale does more or less correspond to the 1 mi/hex in the original map, but is definitely off in the Jumpgated map. Okay so this is the same issue that Tranok also mentioned and emailed about. We know what's going on here, and basically it's that the way hex grid measurements worked in legacy was wrong, and in Jumpgate it's fixed. Of course this means maps imported into Jumpgate are showing up weird. So we're going to add a toggle so you can go back to the old behavior if you would like so your maps keep working as-is. We're working on this now.

Oh! Interesting. I’ll have to test the new hex grid with my TOR2e game & Loremaster maps. I’ve avoided hex grids until now.

Last night had huge problems. Token markers ARE not working. Fog of war is very delayed/unworkable. Aura api wouldn’t work. Mid game had to start a new non jump gate instance of my game(luckily it was published material so the maps were populated) and import players to the new game.  Everything worked fine on the non jump gate game.

Noticed a strange bug with the new Fog of War tools, the permanent darkness takes a few seconds to update on both the users end and the GM's end in real time like it used to, its either delayed or doesn't take effect until you pan the game. Would be nice if we could more reveal tools for the fog of war, the Polygon tool is a pain to use, a brush would be more ideal to allow for precision reveal.
Players can see bars top of tokens on GM layer (but they don't see the token itself)
I tried the fog of war today and noticed that when revealing an area using polygon, it instead reveals the whole map. Also, noticed that when revealing with the rectangle function, that it won't reveal until you move (pan) the map.
The issue I had brought up a few weeks ago still hasn't been adressed. If you tab out of Roll20 and go back the map will freeze and you have to refresh roll20 to get it going again, has there been any progress on this issue yet?

Hi DM Deadman! Can you elaborate on what you mean by "the map will freeze"? Do you mean the whole interface becomes unresponsive? Also, could you give more specific steps than "tab out"? That could be interpreted a lot of ways. I am trying to duplicate this and cannot given the info available. It might also help to note the browser and OS, and whether running in a private browsing window (to rule out most extension issues) makes any difference.

Since I encountered the same bug: PAN does not work anymore, the whole map freezes in place and tokens can no longer be selected / moved. The ONLY way to fix this so far is to reload the page! Have that happen multiple times per game... ... ... It does NOT matter btw. if you are just a player or GM...

Hi, I know this is my fault, but if I try to upload an image that is too big, I don't get any feedback, instead nothing happens, but I do see this error on the console. vtt.bundle.js:45489 Uncaught ReferenceError: Swal is not defined     at Object.N [as showError] (vtt.bundle.js:45489:27697)     at HTMLDivElement.<anonymous> (vtt.bundle.js:45508:3071)     at HTMLDivElement.dispatch (jquery-1.9.1.js:3074:9)     at elemData.handle (jquery-1.9.1.js:2750:28)     at Object.trigger (jquery-1.9.1.js:2986:12)     at jQuery.event.trigger (jquery.migrate.js:468:22)     at HTMLDivElement.<anonymous> (jquery-1.9.1.js:3677:17)     at Function.each (jquery-1.9.1.js:648:23)     at jQuery.fn.init.each (jquery-1.9.1.js:270:17)     at jQuery.fn.init.trigger (jquery-1.9.1.js:3676:15)

Riley D. said: Johnny Meatshield said: For me, copying 2 games to try this was even worse.  Old versions the GPU would sit around 80-85% GPU.  Jumpgate games were 95-100% GPU.  As a result I didn't even try running the games in Jumpgate, immediately deleted the copies and went back to the originals. Running Win 11, Chrome, 24GB RAM (I know that's a weird number), i7-8565U CPU with integrated Intel UHD 620. Which browser were you using? And was Dynamic Lighting enabled? Dynamic Lighting with Explorer Mode on Chrome latest version.  Since it's been 2 weeks I just tried again with the same result.  I use an app called HW Monitor and if it helps, it's the 3D that's being taxed.  The Video Engine. Copy, and Compute lines are all very low but 3D is where almost all of the utilization is going.
Hey folks, We just pushed out another Jumpgate update with some fun new things: Add a toggle in the Graphics Settings that is “Debug broken images”. This defaults now to off. If you enable it, you will see the "Sad Face" graphics when we can't load a graphic. This is so things like modules that are imported that had broken graphics that previously were just invisible will stay invisible. We have built an "error lockup recovery" system where basically if you encounter an error now instead of the entire thing locking up/freezing, you should be able to keep playing (and as an added bonus, it will log errors people are seeing overall so we can track those). New tokens that are created should now obey the Default Token Settings that you can set in the Game Settings page outside of the VTT. We fixed some bugs around sometimes selecting a token and the radial menus not appearing the first time you select it.
Also -- there were some issues reported where some existing sheets were showing incorrectly in Jumpgate (weird layout, images missing, etc.). That should also now be fixed. Thanks!
From one of my players, While game is running , should I need to go to another web page upon returning the map will freeze . I will be able to zoom in and out but am no longer able to pan or access my token / character sheet . The only resolution is to refresh the page and open my character sheet again . Other issues are page freezing while playing , map disappearing , not able to move token suddenly . Issue fixed again by refreshing page.

It seems like images with transparency or possibly just all pngs look way worse post-jumpgate. This also seems to impact the text tool in roll20 itself. Example images included. These are the same images at the same zoom level. before the update after the update
Also for some reason you can't make the grid color transparent anymore.

Hello, One thing I noticed so far : In Jumpgate when you have a token with token buttons and you select Is drawing, the buttons are not displayed anymore. This is too bad because I often use tokens (drawing) on maps and put buttons accessible to players so they can learn more with a command Also loading time is far better :)
Example of the text quality degrading Before jumpgate after jumpgate

The Stroke function is broken as it is regardless. It should apply stroke only externally to the text ("Outside Stroke") not both to the outside and inside simultaneously ("Center Stroke"). Center Stroke almost always looks bad. Stroke thickness should also dynamically scale with the text size, which it does not currently (properly) do.
If you move a token, its nameplate stay on the old position AND move with the token. Reloading the Page fixes it.

Riley, Radial Menus STILL don't appear if a token is clicked! (Reloading fixes it)... AND SHIFT+Z / CMD+SHIFT+Z does not work anymore... AND one more thing: tokens cannot be moved directly. You need to click on them first, then click on them again just to drag it! I wouldn't call this "broken" since it really has nothing to do with Roll20 code, but is a problem with HTML/CSS outlined text. In a publishing program, this is trivial, but to properly simulate this for the web requires adding four offset text-shadow properties, which is not perfect either, but at least readable. I hate outlined text in a web browser environment, but I am not sure what can easily be done to fix it. I'd suggest either using a really heavy font (Candal?), or just not using outlined text.
Why did outlined text break though with the jumpgate update, it was working perfectly fine previously? Changing it isn't really an option because without an outline it is very hard to maintain readability across a background with multiple colors. Additionally Candal does not help it's still extremely heavily pixelated.
